This was a really good 19 chapter book. I think fans of I am Number 4 should read this before THe Power of Six..... Just Saying

I didn't agree with this 100% of the time. I do think that some discussions that involve more than two people are valuable and not just brainstorming. I do have meetings all the time, but most (!) of them are valuable in the current group I'm in. I have been in groups that suffer from exactly what this book is talking about. I'm not entirely convinced the "modern" meeting is a cure all though. I've asked a couple of people I know to also read it and give me opinions about how much of this should be applied.

This book is what I imagine a collaboration between a straight-laced history professor and a Knight of the British Empire would be. It is incredibly British and quite readable, even for American audiences. Winchester is obviously enamored with his topic-- his affection both for James Murray (the senior editor of the OED) and the dictionary itself is palpable. Moreover, he just loves words; some of his favorites are polymathic and niggardly. The book highlights the incredibly nuanced and complex nature of the English language itself, but also the absolute joy that comes in manipulating it.

An underrated sci-fi masterpiece. Clark may be a pedophile, but he really does his science fiction right. p.s. I was recommended not to read the sequels as they are far less superior and kind of ruin the splendor of the first one.

Another Dystopian teen fiction. This one follows a young girl and her sister who are trying to rescue their brother from a gang of men who have stolen him for a sacrifice. Slightly predictable action, but the sister characters are very likable and you really root for them.

"How To Be Single" -Liz Tuccillo (2008) Okay, not gonna lie. Even though I am not a huge fan of the chick-lit genre, I totally enjoyed reading this book. I picked it up on a whim, as more of a joke. The title stood out as something that me and my also newly-divorced roommate could get on board with, and it conveniently turned out to be by the coauthor of "He's Just Not That Into You" - a book we both want to read and a movie we want to see even more. It was one of those books that kept me intrigued and got me into the characters (I could see myself in some of them and my friends in others) but also was more than just pure entertainment. In fact, it reinforced a few things I already knew/believed, along with teaching me a thing or two about my own life and the way I look at things. And while the book initially sets off with a goal of answering the question of why certain women are single and how those single women should live their lives, it ends up in an entirely different place from where it started - which is not a bad thing at all. In fact, the conclusions (or lack of conclusions) drawn at the end seem to make sense. Overall, this book is definitely a must-read for any single woman (or even one in a relationship) as it is not only a quick, fun read, but kind of makes the reader think. Began: January 12, 2009 Ended: January 14, 2009 Page Count: 368

Fast, inspirational read around branding / being different and letting it lay around your desk to give people the impression that you're on top of those things :-)

This (along with Choke) is Chuck Palahniuk at his finest. Both are better than Fight Club, and by saying that I don't mean to take anything away from Fight Club.

This is recommended for common book? I wasn't that crazy about it. It felt sort of gimmicky to me -- like it wasn't written just for the sake of telling the story, but was intended to be a best seller. And I fortold everything 50 pages before it happened. I did really like one quote, very early in the book: "Prime numbers are what is left when you have taken all the patterns away. I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them." pg. 12
