Blech. I hated this book, I might have given it zero stars if possible. It is basically a story of depressed people doing depressing things in their depressed lives while being depressed about getting older. I really do not know how anyone could enjoy reading this, sorry Pulitzer Prize committee. Blech.

I found this book much harder to get into. Although I understood his need to be adventurous I didn't share his love of cars and his adventures. I am so glad he found some amazing friends and older people to respect. Without knowing it at the time, they helped create the man he became.

I liked this book because it had good information about Amelia Earheart. It taught me things that I did not know about her. Like what she was like before the crash and the last time people had talked to her. This book would be a good book for like if you were doing a research paper on Amelia. I did not like this book because it did not have a lot of story in it. It had a lot of information instead. I mean that is good if you want a information book, but that is not what I was really looking for. I surprised me that they still have not found were her ship crashed. I wish that someone would just find the ship already so that we can find out what really happened to this amazing pilot.

I hated this book. It was stupid. The character was dull and boring. The story line made no sense. The cussing was excessive and made the story worse. I read it when I was 12 and then 15 and I still never got it. Guess this book just wasn't meant for me.

I think the title of this book is a bit deceptive. I gathered it would be about finding ways to encourage your child to read and grow to love it. Instead I found a fascinating book chock full of suggestions of wonderful read-alouds and children's books. There are suggestions for Classic literature all the way up to the copyright date of the book. I think what thrilled me the most about this book was that many of the suggested books also included brief biographies about the author. What inspired them to write as well as why they wrote that specific book. In truth I think I find the lives of the authors more intriguing than the actual books they wrote. This book was full of so many great facts that I found myself pausing to read snippets aloud to my kids. For instance, I never knew that Wendy is a name that was entirely conjured up by J.M. Barrie who wrote Peter Pan. Before Peter Pan there is no record of anyone being named Wendy. It is believed that the story of Huckleberry Finn is partly copied from ideas Mark Twain took from his friend, another great author George Macdonald. The Wind in the Willows was actually written as little stories which were to be sent to the authors son when he had to spend a vacation away from him. The book is full of little informative bits like these. I must admit my to-read here on goodreads is a lot longer thanks to this book.

I have two things to say about this book. 1) The scene on the cruise ship went on W A Y T O O L O N G. 2) I had a Next Stop Wonderland sort of experience with it, as I read it back in Boston on my daily commute to work on the T, and a (male) passenger (wearing no wedding ring and) standing beside me was also reading it, so I chatted with him about it. We ended up crossing paths three times, matching books always in hand, which inspired me to slip my business card in as his new bookmark and get a date out of it, as it seemed the fates were trying to give me something more fulfilling from the book than I was at the time getting. (I was stuck in that damn cruise ship scene all the while.) The date was pretty decent but nothing to write home about. I felt the same way about the book.

Had to start reading this all over again because I had stopped reading it so long ago.Could not put it down once I started it again. Was disturbed by some things in the end of the book, but I guess that's how it goes with murder mysteries.
