I really enjoyed this book. It is a romance with strong characters and a great story line. There are several twists and turns and there are deep emotional issues being worked through by each character.

Wow - McEwan really hates women doesn't he? I found myself hating the female character at the end. I found this book hard to get through, I really had to force myself, but McEwan's writing style is poignant enough just (to me) not very plot driven. I liked Saturday better, but found the same thing. It just wasn't moving but caught up in descriptions.

Wonderfully funny, with an undertone of charm and gentle kindness towards the family she so perfectly skewers. Her affection for her loved ones and her sharp self-deprecation make this one a winner, particular in the last few vignettes when her husband (the himself hysterical Jason Jones) enters the picture.

These books are so much fun! The protagonist is an eleven year old girl with a gift for chemistry and solving mysteries :) She is hilarious, mischievous, and super smart. LOVE a super smart female character who knows more than the doddering old policemen. I actually had suspicions on this one, but did not know for sure who the murderer was....it kept me guessing. I will definitely keep reading more in the series.

I finally realized I can now use goodreads to replace the defunct 'reading' section on my blog. Awesome. But, I did actually have some short comments on books up on my blog. This was what I had up about this book right after I read it: I really enjoyed this; in fact, I sort of forgot at moments that it wasn’t fiction, because Nafisi’s writing is so literary, at times a bit whimisical, and what is happening in Iran is so tragic and in a way unbelievable, that it seems quite a bit like fiction. I guess I mean to say that it’s a really good story. It’s also really informative, at least for someone like myself who really didn’t know much about what happened in Iran at the end of the ’70s and throughout the ’80s. It made me think about going to bookstores, libraries, and other similar places in a different way (I went to Chicago’s Printers Row Book Fair just a few days later - hundreds of thousands of books all piled together and people just plunging into them); I suddenly appreciated anew the access to so many different types of writing, and to literature in particular.
