"The man Jack" murders a family, but the youngest, a toddler who has figured out how to get out of his crib, escapes into a nearby graveyard. Though the man Jack pursues the child into the graveyard, the ghosts hide hime. The child is aadopted by a kindly old (and dead) couple give him the name Nobody Owens. His new parents enlist the help of Silas, who, not being a ghost, is able to leave the graveyard to get food. Silas promises to serve as Bod's guardian until he is old enough to care for himself. Through his adventures both in and out of the graveyard, Bod learns many of the skills he needs to survive. Bod's graveyard family is filled with a variety of interesting characters who all do their best to care for him and teach him whatever he needs to know. The bittersweet ending is fantastic. Highly recommended!

Paul Fisher was nearly blinded in a horrible accident that happened when he was very young. Through the novel, we gradually learn what really happened and that things aren't always as they seem. Creepy and realistic.

I found this book about a futuristic utopia sort of refreshing and very interesting.

This was a really awful book. I really liked some of his others (ie Key to Rebecca, Pillars of the Earth) but this one....blah!

Much better than the movie - Scarlett's not such a bitch because in the novel, you know WHY she acts like one. Second, no having to cringe from horrible accents from certain actresses. It's not a hard read, though long - the pages fly by.

Oh, Nightrise. I have mixed feelings on this one. On its own, it's great. It's exciting and action-packed, and Jamie was a *great* MC. I particularly LOVE this cover. It's a great book... but I loved Matt & Richard so much in the earlier books that it was hard to switch over to Scott & Jamie. This is my sister's favorite book of the series, and while it's great, I felt like I'd been taken away from the people I loved and forced to meet their future friends without them. So it wasn't as enjoyable, but it's all a personal thing and not a reflection on the book.

Again another classic Koontz, using his formula of humble, good guy with twisted past who is faced with horrendous challenge that he must overcome by using pieces of himself that have remained hidden. Though, I sound critical, I still enjoy reading his novels.

scary to think that i grew up in the ozarks and knew some of these people. scary to think that these lives still exist and suburbia hasn't taken up their cause yet.

I love to listen to James Patterson books on CD. His storytelling style and rhythms lend themeselves perfectly to audio format. This particular tale features his favorite protagonist Alex Cross, who has retired from the FBI to private practice as a psychologist. However, when the opportunity surfaces for Cross finally find his wife's killer after ten years, how can he resist. This one has a few gruesome moments, but a great listen.

Imagine a trademark Iñárritu film, but one in which the connections between characters are through time instead of space. Six stories range from 1) a notary traveling through the Pacific in the late 1840s 2) a dandy composer who has been disowned by his aristocratic British family and flees to Belgium 3) the daughter of a famous war journalist who redeems herself professionally by covering a hot story on a nuclear plant 4) a publisher who escapes gangsters only to find himself checked into an old folk's home (unwillingly) 5) a Philip K. Dick style incursion into an android's emerging sentience in a dystopian future of free market corporatism without rein 6) an account of the post-apocalyptic distant future through the voice of a boy in a tribe on an Hawaiian island Mitchell does not disappoint -- I highly recommend this book. The underlying principle that ties all of these stories together is the tendency of human nature to subjugate those who are weaker -- and weakness in this book is a legion of traits.
