Started this series quite awhile ago when my girls were teenagers. Picked this one up and it reminded me of why I liked the series. Henderson writes a romance novel that is centered around people on the front lines: in this book the heroine is a trauma counselor. It is light reading, but also encouraging and informing and does not insult my intelligence like so many other Christian romance novels.

Comment: Buy this for the four complete works: Zarathustra, Twilight, Antichrist, and the work on Wagner - everything else is almost worthless. Kaufmann's translations are very good - but the idea that you can throw together whatever snippets you want of Nietzsche! Well, let's be charitable and say that was the publishers Idea. Another problem, and this is a calamity if you intend to study the four complete works, there is no index to any of them. Absurd! Also, the brief prefaces are not anything to write home about. If you really want to study any of these works you will have to get a more scholarly edition. The book is cheap, the author is Nietzsche, and the translations are good - those are the only reasons you buy this book.

This was the first book I listened to on CD. It was disturbing at points, but I really liked it.

really can't get enough of winterson. this is a delicious little book, very easy to read...i finished it in a day. favorite excerpts: "What should I do about the wild and the tame? The wild heart that wants to be free, and the tame heart that wants to come home. I want to be held. I don't want you to come too close. I want you to scoop me up and bring me home at nights. I don't want to tell you where I am. I want to keep a place among the rocks where no one can find me. I want to be with you." "I know that the real things in life, things I remember, the things I turn over in my hands, are not houses, are not houses, bank accounts, prizes or promotions. What I remember is love - all love - love of this dirt road, this sunrise, a day by the river, the stranger I met in a cafe. Myself, even, which is the hardest thing to love, because love and selfishness are not the same thing. It is easy to be selfish. It is hard to love who I am. No wonder I am surprised if you do." "I looked back at you. These moments that are talismans and treasure. Cumulative deposits - our fossil record - and the beginnings of what happens next. They are the beginning of a story, and the story we will always tell."

{Sited from my website TeenageBookaholic } Hounded by Kevin Hearne is the story of Atticus O'Sullivan, An Irish Druid who is 21. Oh, not 21 years! 21 centuries! He just still happens to look 21 years. He lives peacefully in Arizona, selling occult things in his bookshop and brewing teas, all the while, possessing a sword that a Irish God wants back. After hounding Atticus for many centuries, The God has come to claim what's his. But with his werewolf attorneys and a hot goddess of death on his side, will the sword stay with Atticus? Or will Death claim his overdue soul? After reading the dedication, I wasn't sure of this book, whether it would be serious of funny. Turns out you can do both. The book had a slow beginning, picks up again, slows up a bit, then barrels through to the end. I found this to be an enjoyable book once you get midway through. I didn't get confused much, but in a few spots. It was also hard to grasp because it has to do with Celtic and Irish folklore, which I have little knowledge of. All in all, I enjoyed the characters' depth, especially Oberion! Best for people who like Folklore and Irich culture, or are looking for a sarcastic and funny book similar to that of Christopher Pike's series Thirst.

One- to two-page horror stories, some told with graphics, most without, by many of the top writers in the business today. Many hits, a few not-hits (no real misses). Quite an excellent choice for anyone looking to be scared (or find new tales to tell around the campfire). One favorite:

Much of the scandalous stuff Vidal writes in this book has been said elsewhere, but as Richard Wright said of H. L. Mencken, ". . . what amazed me was not what he said, but how on earth anybody had the courage to say it." A nice take down of how our leaders goad us into war.

I listened to this very long biography on CD, and I found it quite amazing. I am glad to be able to see how Walt Distney's extremely interesting and exciting career fit into the timeline of history. It was important to see him as a flawed but real person. I enjoyed learning about the beginning of animation and what the Hollywood studios were like back in the 1930's. This is an excellent biography of an important American.

I think this might be my favorite book ever. This is the third time I've read it. I recommended it for my book group, because I wanted to talk about it with other people. We generated a great conversation about love, learning to know ourselves, and the love that God requires of us.
