I actually listened to this book on tape. It was a very entertaining and fun story. I thought it was amazing how the author was able to tell a small part of the story and make it last a whole chapter. Very funny! I would have gave it a 5 if it did not drag on in the end.

This was a great audiobook. Michael J Fox narrates it himself which makes it that much better. He writes with honesty and humor that you are right there with him. I grew up watching Alex P Keaton as well as Marty McFly and I think it is always interesting learning about famous people because we put them in another category and at times expect them to be more than human. Here is a story where you see just how human he is and yet I am more amazed with him now. He has faced challenges and has handled them with true grace and poise in my opinion and not only him but his family. I truly thank him for sharing and writing this book. A must read...or listen for everyone.

A better book than it was a movie, but not exactly great literature. A boy comes up with an idea on how to change the world. It works, but the story is more about how his own life and that of his mother and teacher change. The movie short-changes the book and some of its challenges. In the book, the "white trash" mother falls for the teacher, a widowed (I think) black man. They both struggle with how they think the other perceives them. He's a black man, horribly scarred from his time as a soldier. She's an uneducated white woman who doesn't feel like she can compete with his memory of his beautiful and refined wife.

I really shouldn't like this book. The characters are one dimensional and only serve to promote her philosophy. It's long, repetitive, and she's so scarily right wing it makes me angry. Plus the text is really small! I think this book is directly related to my need for glasses. Despite all these faults, I somehow liked it anyway. Maybe I'm a closet libertarian.

"גם מה שיש לך. אז אתה תיתן לי לעשות את עבודה שלי, ואתה תעשה עבודה שלך ותשכב על מיטה עם חולצה למעלה ומכנסים למטה עד ברכיים"(עמ` 88) מדובר בספר צנום, אבל הוא כתוב בצורה שנונה ונוגעת ללב. אני בהחלט מסכימה עם המילים של מנחם פרי בכריכה, שמדובר בספר כייפי ומבריק למרות הנושאים הכבדים שעולים בו. לצערי, הרגשתי שהפרק וחצי האחרונים נופלים בהרבה מיתר הספר והרגשתי שברבש לא בדיוק ידע איך לסיים את מה שהתחיל. אני יכולה להבין את הקושי. קל לקחת פנטזיה ולטפל באמצעותה באירועים עכשווים, אבל התפר של החזרה מהפנטזיה למציאות תמיד קשה לטיפול, במיוחד כשאין התרה של העלילה או פתרון. עדין לטעמי מדובר בספר ראוי לקריאה. אותי ברבש הפתיע בכתיבה אנושית ובטיפול רגיש בנושאים כואבים.
