This book was pretty dense and academic. The content was well researched and the overall idea was thought provoking. However, it was tough to get through this book. Only read this book if you are really into economics and history.

I really found this book distrubing and not in pleasant thought provoking way. It just seemed pointlessfly vicious there wasn't any reason why the women did what they did other than malice. I think it bothered me that the author made it seem like a sympathetic understanding look at women's lives, but really was in my mind rathe rpointlessly cruel. My reaction reminds me of when I read We've got to etalk about Brian which is a look at mothers who don't like their children. Chillig, well written, but did not leave me feeling too good after I read it.
