THis is a book for teenagers but I love the author so I thought I would try it. I had never really been a Christian trying to go to high school. We stopped attending church while I was still in elementary school. This girl had a tough go with her parents trying to protect her from the world. I know that every parent wants to protect their child and finding a balance is hard. THe mother made all the girls clothes and had strick rules for everything including meeting boys. The girl wanted so bad to go to her senior prom and her parents had rules on that. I thought of the book for my step daughter.

This was pretty good throughout, though I wished he would have gone a little deeper into the scientific aspects of what was happening.

This book was absolutely amazing. The Holocaust was one of the most horrible times in history, and depending on who you were at the time, so many things were different. It's important to see things in a variety of different people's point of views to get the full story. In The Boy in Striped Pajamas, the point of view was completely different from what I'm used to. Bruno is a nine-year-old German, whose dad is in charge of one the concentration camps in Germany. He's so naive and has never really opened his eyes to the world around him until his family had to move close by the concentration camp, Auschwitz, which Bruno pronounced as "out-with". And as frustrating as it is, he never fully realized, and never fully learned the horrors and imperfections the world is full of. But that is one of the things that makes the book so great. The father of Bruno managed to keep his son unaware of the cruel things he was doing to others, not too far from his house. During the Holocaust, Bruno had not even the slightest idea of what was happening to millions of innocent people. The thing is, that was probably the case for other children during this time. Who would think that a child in Germany during the time of the Holocaust would be completely unaware of the cruelty and prejudice going on in the world. The book is different in so many ways and that is what makes it amazing. (I'm not saying that I would tell a young child all about what was happening, but I'm just saying, I've never really thought about someone not knowing about the horrible things happening during the Holocaust.)

I gave this book 5 stars not only for itself (though it is very very good), but also for the author. I don't necessarily have a definite favorite of hers, but whenever I'm in a crunch at the library and just want to grab something I KNOW I'll enjoy, I get a Norah Lofts. The really cool thing about her books is that generally they span several generations of people. Now I'm usually not a short-story type reader, but in this case it's really cool because many times she'll stick with a house, and follow who comes and goes in it (the owners) and many times you'll see things tie together in cool ways. Some of her books do not do this but many do and it is always neat. Her books are not always happy, but always great reads. Try one!

Cute and sad, all in one. This may be the first time that I say that the movie was better than the book. I just did not think it was well written. The storyline was humorous and entertaining, but I just got lost in it. It could have been cut in half.

I really loved the simpleness and yet the depth of this book. I liked the multi-generational perspective and the demonstration of finding joy and peace in everyday life. The book really made me think, and I love it when a book does that!
