So far, the only one of the series that I've enjoyed.

Cute, fun story!
this is one of those books that starts at the end and works its way backwards, sidewinding its way through the events that led up to such an explosive intro (and ending). the facts and truths behind the characters, their relationships to each other, their motives, and their pasts. its really twisted, actually, everything that gets revealed, but i actually enjoyed the book, which surprised me. palahniuk isn't shy about his satire on beauty and the ridiculous importance society places on it.

The Elegance of the Hedgehog was a tough one for me. It's full of big words I don't know the meanings of, philosophy I don't agree with and French words I can't pronounce. Truthfully, the challenges mentioned above prevented me from reading this book as quickly as I have read others so far this year. I borrowed the book from my boss who had great things to say about it, and although I got a bit more into it each day, I needed the narrated audio version to get through it. Thank goodness for a free trial on Audible.com and a Kindle to play it! I was able to use context clues for the words I didn't know, finish strings of philosophy without stumbling and hear French words that I would have butchered on my own. It was wonderful. Plus, being able to hear the tone in the main characters' voices was an excellent advantage and added to the story. I was happy to read Paloma's Profound Thought No. 14, because I have been to Angelina's in Paris and it was fun to be able to relate to where she was and made the story more real for me. There is so much about this book that I loved, even if I didn't agree with everything in it. Paloma reminded me of Wednesday from The Addams Family and Renee reminded me of a smart Blanche from The Golden Girls (less the man crazy, though). :) I would love to read this again and can only imagine that I will gain more from it when I read it again and again. My advice to anyone considering The Elegance of the Hedgehog is not to let the difficulty of the reading get to you. If you're able to stick it out to the end and accept the real-to-life ending, you won't be disappointed!

likeable heroine, great story idea- though it isn't my favourite of books, I'm sure that's just my taste. I'm pretty sure most people would like this.

Yet another stunning work from Maragaret Atwood. Post-apocalyptic-type view of the world going to hell in a handbasket. Reading the book is like finding your way out of a maze or solving a murder- and it's hardly even a mystery novel. It begins with an ending, and retells the events leading to mankind's ultimate downfall. Slowly, bits and pieces of information come together, forming an ending, or more appropritately, an explanation, that is initially unexpected. The best part of this book is how eerily realistic it is, and how easily our world could become just like the world of Oryx and Crake. It might just scare you shitless...

This is one of my favorite young adult reads, Nix is a great author to introduce anyone to because his stories are pleasurable to devour. The Abhorsen Trilogy is one of his older-teen series (vs. the ongoing Keys to the Kingdom series for younger teens) that appeals to adult audiences who enjoy well thought-out dark stories. Also worth noting: both Philip Pullman and Lloyd Alexander give it thumbs up on the back cover. These are two highly repected and verrrrry different fantasy authors, which should give you an idea of the amazingness contained within the cover.

I thought this book was well thought out and intriguing. A friend of mine lent it to me and I only have a week with it so I devoured it. I'm not sure about some of the books, but there are a couple there that are definitely worth discussing and looking into further. And they're right: not all the books are great books, but even the bad books are helping create Christian culture. I love that they included poetry and plays. I don't usually ever buy books, but I purchased this one last night and am looking forward to tackling some of these books on with either friends or, in the future, hopefully a son or two. I think this will be a good resource. Can't wait to mark mine up as much as my friend Megan has hers.
Just as gritty as the Cirque du Freak books. I was so excited when I realized that this even existed! :D I love Larten and I have high hopes for the rest of this hopefully lengthy series!

Well this book holds one of the most captivating stories I have ever read in my entire life. During the process of this book I found myself crying after every page. If you haven' heard about it, its about the authors life; Dave Pelzer, with the abuse of his mother. His mother would torture him the most out of all of his brothers. No one is there to save him, that is why he must keep hope. He has thought listless times of just giving up, but he didn't. He would have to lie to the school system about his bruises and other such things to keep his moms slate clean. There is soo much tension and abuse in this book it is very hard to explain. But basically its one boys survival to a happier life a better one that what he was given. This book takes you through the pain and suffering of a young boy. This book will break your heart and make you stronger at the same time. One of the best books I have read in my short lifetime.
