Charlie, the son of a winemaker, dreams of becoming an NFL star until an injured knee shatters his dreams. His father Charles wants for him to one day take over the family business. Depressed and distraught, Charlie begins a friendship with Randy Black. Charlie learns a little to late that Randy is on a path to destruction. Randy picks Deirdre and brings her Charlie. The three plan on having a very intimate evening together. Deirdre had placed an ad in the paper looking for some fun. What she didn't expect was her husband to walk in on her while committing adultery. Of course her husband is furious and a fight breaks out between the three men. Charlie will learn of the skeletons in his father's closet and because of this the lives of these people will forever be entwined. I really enjoyed this fast-paced, action packed, suspense filled book. The author has a way of keeping you wanting more. I'm desperately awaiting "A Demon Awaits" which picks up where "Sin & Vengeance" ended.

It's young adult without being stupid. There is no popular trying to get the guy, fit in while trying to become homecoming queen. It's about a girl who feels numb in her life, but can't "speak" as to why - until the end. Because of this her friends and family have left or do not understand her. Highly recommend.

It's a very interesting, though somewhat scattered read. I loved getting inside Dylan's head and hearing what he did and what he makes of fame. Sometimes it was so right-brained it was sort of maddening, but overall a book that I loved.

I picked this up mostly because I heard that it was the central influence for Wes Anderson's Royal Tenenbaums. That and all the cool kids in college that I aspired to be like were reading it. I found it pretentious. The characters were repellent, immature and irritating. Maybe that was the point. Maybe when I read this I just wasn't in the mood to sympathize with a character wallowing in perhaps their first existential crisis. The movie captured and more expertly developed themes and characters touched lightly upon this book. I remember really enjoying Catcher in the Rye and intended to reread it at some point. I'm holding off on that for now.

So repetitious and juvenile it should have been called How Many Times Does Carl the Monkey Flip the Bird and Just What Amount of Farts Can One Book Have?: A Stephanie Plum "Let's-Learn-How-to-Count" Book Unbelievably awful.

** spoiler alert ** Why is there so much pain in this novel ? Why do Hussain and Amir turn out to be brothers ?! This idea is kind of expected, and very consumed. The novel is full of unneeded detailed description that bores the reader, and makes the story longer for no reason. I personally do not recommend this book to anyone.
