Some misses, some very excellent hits (especially Ursula Cookie and You on a Stick, plus the one about the butterflies). Mostly fun essays, nothing too banal or compelling. I'd be friends with Sloane, and I'm not mad that I listened to this. I enjoyed her voice (author reading audiobook!), but there was a little bit of a try-hard to the effortlessness.

The first book takes place in a cave. The second is about the hero struggling to discover the truth, freed from the cave and out in the naked sun. I am not sure if it was intentional or not, but the allusion to Plato's Republic is interesting. I am not sure how deep it goes, but it is there, especially with the discussion of Sparta as a kind of model for Solaria. Asimov weaves a great mystery story and I can't wait to get to the Robots of Dawn.

I kept in mind my friend's suggestion to suspend reality, and that helped a lot in this book. Although it was hard to forgive the fact that Dona was a mother, I still found the story enjoyable. The ending wasn't entirely satisfying though.
