I was so against reading Harry Potter. I thought it was a kids book and everyone kept telling me to read them. So when I was in London I picked up the first two and I haven't been able to put them down ever since!

Not my favorite of the series. The plot was a bit scattered, and didn't completely hold my interest as it did in previous books. I think what kept me clutching the book till the end was (big surprise) Will and Nell. This book, I feel, focuses more on their growing relationship than it does on the mystery itself - which I was fine with, for the most part, though a tiny part of me wishes the mystery they were solving was as fascinating as their will-they/won't-they interactions. There were also parts where I would get summarily frustrated with Nell's views on divorce and religion - though I think that's a) a personal taste and b) somewhat supposed to be felt, as a modern reader. The end, however, was probably one of the sweetest scenes I have ever read between two characters, and the depth of emotion conveyed through the smallest of gestures was something I particularly loved. Definitely a good read, though not the best, mystery-wise.

David isn't listening to his parents. The word "no" is repeated several times and could be used as a read along with the whole class after it is presented a few times. Beginning to recognize familiar words and phrases. Text is large and can be read by students in the classroom.

I found this book to be a mishmash of styles (historical fiction mostly but with a bit of magic realism and romance thrown in) dealing with a mishmash of big themes (love, war, homosexuality). Set in WWII, on a Greek island which is invaded by Italians and Germans, the multi-layered story has very likable characters and a very engaging plot. I would have given it five stars except I didn't like the ending so much and felt it was kind of forced. Certainly worth reading though, especially those who enjoy historical fiction.

I doubt anything I can say about the series and this book in particular will make you read it or any of the others. I think there are those who refuse to pick up this just because of some preconceived notion they have. And then there are your die-hard fans. Those who love anything Diana Gabaldon writes. I'm some were in the middle. I haven't loved all the books, but am amazed at the talent portrayed in them. I was worried were the story was going after the last two novels. I knew we had to hit a point were the action would pick up again, but I didn't know if it would be enough to compel me forward. The first 500 pages are much like the previous two books. It's all about the details. But, I could tell the tension was building. The date on the newspaper was approaching as was the pending war with England. And then the last 500 pages just exploded. There's murder, theft, kidnapping, and many other things. It reminded me of the adventures in the first three books. I was anxious to see how all the pieces fit together. I was also happy to see some things settled the way the should be. So for those who have felt the series has faltered a little and haven't read this one yet, I would recommend it. I would say it's my 3rd favorite of the series (I know right it the middle, but it's hard to beat Outlander and Voyager). And, if you haven't even started this series yet, I urge you to give it a try!

OMG! Such a good ending! The last few chapters were intense... kind of weak in the epilogue - I mean if you're going to fast forward 19 years then give us the full scoop! What are these people doing with themselves?? I loved it! loved every Potter book... and now that I am done with the series & am going to start at the beginning!
