Certainly not a quick reference book, but I think it has good points for writers willing to read through it. Williams doesn't oversimplify suggestions on language use, which is refreshing, but that definitely makes it a book that you've got to really pick up and read, rather than take from your bookshelf when you have a quick editing question. (Although there are good books out there for that, too). He writes, "This is a book about writing clearly. I wish it could be short and simple like some others more widely known, but want to do more than just urge writers to 'Omit Needless Words' or ;Be clear.' Telling me to 'Be clear' is like telling me to 'Hit the ball squarely.' I know that. What I don't know is how to do it. To explain how to write clearly, I have to go beyond platitudes"(1).

Another example of a movie I preferred to the book.

this was a stocking stuffer from dad this past Christmas. it's pretty good. mccourt's style is blunt, funny, and self-deprecating. he illustrates the struggle teachers encounter as they endeavor to engage students and instill a love of learning.

I love how the consistency of the author and how the characters are set apart from each other.

devastating, actually i read this book because one song that have the same tittle from my favorite instrumental rock band: MONO, i'm pretty lucky the book is on my campus library, and i found the relation, it's about the same thing. the mass murder, nuclear bomb. the story is about one man, survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to describe the nuclear fallout from the bombs, which initially occurred in the form of precipitation. The book alternates between Shizuma Shigematsu's journal entries and other characters from August 6–15, 1945, Hiroshima, and the present, several years later, when he and his wife Shigeko become the guardians their niece, Yasuko, and liable to find a suitable husband for her. At the start of the novel, three earlier attempts to arrange a match have already failed due to health concerns over her having been exposed to the "Black Rain" fallout of the atomic bomb. The radiation sickness is one of the main causes of concern throughout the story. Shigematsu's journal entries attempts to disprove her sickness, but in the end Yasuko was affected by the "Black Rain".

I was skeptical of the first person narrative and style of writing at the beginning, but as I read through, I found Sharp Objects to be surprisingly satisfying. A thoroughly disturbing book, it still manages to be relatable and a book that should be read during the day.

I enjoyed this book, I did not get bored in any area (I did not skip through any spots) When I got to the end I wanted more. Looking forward to reading Stone Queen.

Hard to read. First half is especially hard to get through. I guess it is a parable but I am not sure about what. I think author has overinflated idea of his writing and message. And I apparently did not get the message. Second half is ok adventure story. But I dont' think that is what author intended.

Fun, fast read. I like the varieties of lives - they span all races and nationalities - our protagonists are born into. I also liked that some villanious characters get redeemed.
