I think it would be hard for a true hard-core LOVER of gone with the wind, as I am, to love this book. Don't get me wrong, I devoured it in like 4 days. But that's because I love the characters so much and my curiosity was consuming. Gone with the wind has been my favorite book since I was 15. I've never felt that kind of love for any other book, and so I've put off reading scarlett for years. Entertaining as it was, Ripley is, in my opinion, nowhere near the writer that Mitchell was. It also seemed to me that the story took somewhat of a modern turn, and at several points I wondered if the fact that this book was written in the 90's wasn't shining through. However, there were moments when the voice of Scarlett and Rhett was crystal clear, and those passages made the book worth reading. While it will always be in the shadow of it's predecessor, Scarlett is worth the read for anyone wanting to reconnect with the characters they fell in love with in gone with the wind.

I'm not really a fan of Savannah, but one of the things that made this book good was that it was about challenging Savannah's piss-poor attitude and also her reliance on being a ridiculously powerful spellcaster, which were the main things about her that always really annoyed me. I still don't really like her, but I did enjoy the book. A great installment in what is probably my favorite urban fantasy series.
