I thought this was going to be more of a narrative, I'm not sure where I got that impression. However, I have learned to squish my incorrect expectations and I ended up enjoying this book. It was very intriguing and has lead me to look in to other related topics, which is something I value in books of this sort; inspiring further learning.

This is the book I use to teach my drawing class. If you want to learn to drawm it is quite helpful. Trust the crazy exercises she recommends (like drawing without looking at your page), they all have a utility that only comes out in hindsight. I do think though that all her blah on right/left side of the brain differentiation is crap. You don't need to know any of that to make her exercises applicable.

Can be a slog to get through if you're not used to reading history or philosophy, but this was a book that marked the beginning of the age of postmodernism and social studies of technology, though the author hates all that crap.

After receiving the email forward (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_4qwV...) of Kelly Corrigan reading her essay "Transcending," I knew I wanted to read this book. It's an achingly beautiful chronicle of her battle with cancer, her struggles with "growing up," and the relationships that brought her through it all. Alternately inducing loud chortles and teary eyes, this tale is a must-read for everyone who will (one day) be in that "Middle Place" of being someone's daughter and someone's mother. Fantastic, really.
