This was a good book, I was anxious to find out how the ending would show itself.

Heartbreaking. Dark. Beautifully written. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars but there's no way to do that on this site. It is one to remember.

"The horrific events of a slave rebellion in Jamaica in the late 1800s are told in a narrative written by a character revealed only at the end of this book. The writing style mimics the lingo of the slaves and may be off-putting as is the graphic brutality and general wretchedness of the slaves' existence, but the historical impact of the story is like a punch in the stomach and the bravado of the night women undeniable." --DB/Reference Click here to request this book at LCPL

Shudderchild by Warren C. Norwood 1987 So I recently found this book while adding a box of old paperbacks to my LibraryThing account. I have read it before but it could have been 20 years ago. Long enough that though the story seemed familiar I had no idea what was going to happen next. Since I have read this book last I have read many other books that fall into that TEOTWAWKI category and must say it was refreshing to read a story of some people in the US after a great destruction, something having to do with plate tectonics and earthquakes, that weren’t eating each other. This is not to say life was easy or everyone got along but cannibalism seems to be the norm in this genre. Another thing that struck me and frankly it may be my mindset was the quest for power by several people most notably the priest. I guess the more things change the more they stay the same. Lastly I liked Norwood’s use old infrastructure and equipment. It makes sense to me that people would use gas, trucks, roads, and airplanes as long as they would make things easier for them, perhaps with less and less frequency but still as long as they could cobble things together.

I liked this as much as 1 and more than 2. I felt the story was easy to follow from the beginning and didn't jump around as much as 2 did. The ending was fun. I could stop here, but why when there's still book 4 to read!! Very readable author

The story of Ollie continues. Just as lovely as the other Dunrea books.

Very interesting read. I especially loved the beginning of the book, detailing his childhood in rural France and his career before the White House. The last third of the book can get very repetitive, however, it was very interesting to me as a scholar of international relations to hear about the way he researched for foreign desserts.

I really enjoyed this book. I am somewhat of a skeptic and I hate books, movies or television programs that are so heavy handed that I know my emotions are being manipulated. It is a credit to Sandra Kring that I did not feel anything but pleasure as I shared the world of Button and Winnalee because my radar is always attuned for the falsely sentimental. A good job of writing and I would recommend this book to my friends. You won't feel as if you wasted your time.
