I really loved this book. It was pretty much a copy of Lord of the Rings with dragons, but it was well written and it was a great escape into the world of fantasy. It's hard to believe that it was written by a teenager.

What a shame. I didn't by any standards like the last two books in this series. I'm so disappointed :( I don't want to say that about a series I REALLY like but I think there should be no more books unless some drastic change is being done. I'm not attacking here, I'm only being honest and speaking my mind, but this book and the one before felt unneeded inessential addition. There was no point in them, so unlike the first four where you actually felt like you were reading a certain storyline that you are being led to a purpose, something truly relevant, here, unfortunately this book and the one before were like some adventures lived on the side and the main story being neglected. The romance was repetitive at best, no interesting characters were introduced, the whole aspect was like Cat is the centre of the universe and every person be it supernatural or otherwise was wanting to harm her or kill her its gotten so old I'm so tired of it! Hell, even the cheesy remarks were almost the same as ones before. It was meant to make us feel " ooh that Ian and his asshole persona, ooh I missed his lines" when it really made me feel "this has gone beyond endearing to annoying and I did not just waste my time reading a book that didn't introduce anything new" plus call me paranoid but I couldn't but notice how very similar Tyler's character and the way he speaks and Lafayette from Sookie Stackhouse series, even down to the brown skin and gay detail! And I bet you not all gay and black people say " bitch " as a sentence starter! It was almost like watching true blood episode! And above all that, the book finished with some loose ends, like whatever happened to her uncle Don, was he able to cross? Or why was he lingering in the first place? Ahh, not that's out of my chest, I gave it 3 stars because although my attention kept wavering and I was very tempted to skip chapters of this book while reading it, I did finish it and I still like Cat and Bones. At least my liking them hasn't changed!

I had heard that this was the greatest book ever. It had been recommended to me by two professors and all the hype made me get my expectations a little too high. However, it was a very good book dealing very well and comprehensively with a very difficult subject. It is a very fast read and highly structured. It really puts the idea and culture behind death and the process of grieving in perspective.

By removing certain defining elements of Christianity all together, Harnack, leaves a religion that is not all that clearly defined. The result is an individual faith that has the will and reason to determine its own relationship with God and how that relationship should be practically revealed though a life of love. He understands his theology to be a liberation of Christian faith from mystery and unknowable ideas, from the power structures of institutions and doctrines, and from all worldly activities and concerns. While he strives to present a revised understanding of Christianity without dogma and ascetic practices, he ends up with a religion that holds history as his dogmatic doctrine of truth and morality as its necessary ascetic practice. In liberating the Christian kernel from the husk, Harnack has removed so much of the Christian religion that he has created a kernel of religion that depends on the ability of humanity’s reason and will. He seems to have freed humanity from any need or want of the Christian God at all. While Harnack’s theology does emphasize some important, and even true, notions, it does not reveal the full truth of the Gospel held by Protestant Christians as faith in Jesus as God.
