I'm not sure I fully appreciated the power of the prose toward the end, but I think I'll read it again. Not as packed with witticisms as the other books I've read, but the power of the story is stronger.

At first I didn't want to read the book because it was very lengthy in pages. However, once I flipped through the pages, I saw that there was a lot of white space and the writing was in forms of poetry. Once I started reading it, I had no idea what was going on. This book overall was fairly confusing to me. However, I got the overall jist which is the girl is addicted to drugs. The monster is I believe crack. The girl is a normal teenager who goes through relationships where she gets taken advantage of because she falls too hard for the guy. One guy even scarred a heart onto her. It shows how people around her and her family couldn't relate to her and she felt alone. I like the overall plot of the book, but if it was written in a more clear way, I would have liked it more. In the end I believe she recovers from her drug addiction and finally finds comfort and understanding in her life. I would recommend this book to people who like to read poetry. It took me a long while to read because I wasn't really interested.

When I realized Colin & Eloise weren't a part of this book, I was mildly annoyed. But I found myself really enjoying the story. Turnip has been an amusing character for me in the past, although I have never loved him as other readers have. I was therefore pleased to see how the author fleshed out the character into a more 3 dimensional view. Good read, especially if you're a fan of the series.

I read this book about a Bruegel painting, because I was so spellbound by the movie by director Lech Majewski, and starring Rutger Hauer as Peter Bruegal that I wanted to read the book that the film was based on. Saw the movie at Sundance 2011. Its truely a remarkable painting, with so much story going on in it that its worth a long, long look and much contemplation. Not for everyone again, but for the Bruegal lover its simply wonderful! I had no idea of the historical background and the book, which began as an essay is really quite reader friendly. The movie was so beautiful!

Flashman in Russia! One of the things I really love about the Flashman novels is how they stir up an interest in a historical period which I know very little about. In this case I think Yakub Beg and Izzat Kutebar sort of steal the show from what should have been pretty exciting stuff in the Crimea but it's all great reading just the same. Favourite moments include Flashy catching his wife with Lord Cardigan and the escape-by-sleigh-pursued-by-wolves. As always, Flashman is the most perfect anti-hero I've ever read. I've come to think of George McDonald Fraser in the same class as P.G. Wodehouse and Rex Stout for brilliant use of first person narration.

I almost gave this book three stars, but the bad language and sex put me off. The whole book was one long car chase, and the love interest was developed so quickly that is was unbelievable. I ended up speed reading through the last half of it just to see how it ended.
