Gün O Gün'dür! - Banu Avar TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

Tarafından yazılmış kitap Tarafından: Remzi Kitabevi

CHECKED OUT THE BOOK FROM MY PUBLIC LIBRARY. Review/Rating: 3 out of 5 With the discovery of an ancient astronomically aligned grave site in Dorset, everyone is excited over it — well, pretty much everyone. You see, something or someone is doing its best to sabotage and scare the archaeologists, led by Mark Clare, from digging there and Pilgrin Valley. How is it that something as small as a grave site will bring together a group of people, who seem to have nothing in common with each other? I’ll be honest with you. I absolutely hated this book. :| And it isn’t because of a lack of descriptions, which I love to have in the novels I read. I’ll continue with the reasons why I didn’t like the book in another paragraph since there are a lot of them. :( Oh, yeah, there might be some spoilers about the book toward the end of the review. :X The first thing I didn’t like about this book is that it was really redundant, which is one of the reasons why the book was extremely slow-moving. The slow-moving plot is another thing I didn’t like about the book. It took about 100 pages just to get the characters digging and for the something/someone to sabotage the dig. Then, it went back to slow-moving until the last couple of chapters. The slow-moving gets kind of annoying, so I suggest just reading 20 pages each time you read, then take a break, and then start reading again. It kind of eases the pain of it. ;) Oh, also, the book kind of jumps from one point to another, which may confuse you if you don’t take breaks to think about it. Another thing, I found the characters rather, umm, boring and depressing. I’m used to reading books where it shows different personalities for each character, like them being happy, sad, etc. In this book, they remain their depressing selves. I can just imagine a frown on all their faces everyday.I think that’s also what made it slow-moving because the characters were a little too depressing for me. :( That’s pretty much the only things I didn’t like about this novel, now for the things I did like about it. Even though it is very slow-moving, the characters are depressing, and very little action, I liked how the descriptions were always there, no matter how boring it got. I know I say the book is “boring”, but in a weird way, it isn’t. The author uses poetry, metaphors, descriptions that make it a little less boring, and the author also uses the poetry to bring out a deeper meaning than just having a plot. I read online that some people might be confused about the ending of the book. I have my own opinions about what it means. Think about it like this the theme mostly is about stars and how everything is connected in some sort of way, it is also about time, change, and death. At the end of the book, the characters realize that even though their find is old, the person’s family, still has the right to send them back to the sky to be stars (which you may say God, in some sort of way). Also, that as stars, the souls can still be with their loved ones and watch over them. And that to see every star (soul) in the sky, will be nothing but light, which is what one of the characters sees at the end of the book. Well, I that’s what I think what the ending means, whether it is right or not, I don’t know. Also, I know I put “supernatural” and “horror” as the genre, but it isn’t really supernatural or horror. I just put that because of the summary on the back of the book. Unless you scare easily or are very superstitious, it won’t be those genre for you. :) I rated it a three mostly because of the deeper meaning… I would have rated it a two, that is, if it didn’t have that deeper meaning that I like so much. ;) So don’t read, if you don’t like slow-moving, redundant novels. Also, you have to figure out the deeper meaning to really enjoy the book, but you have to get through the parts I found annoying first. :D

** spoiler alert ** Tedium, thy name is LOVER ENSHRINED. Hence the F-ING F'S in this rant review. I'm warning you. Use it ... don't use it ... whatever. I can only wonder how I have reached the LAST FUCKING PAGE, FINALLY!!! without poking my eyes out with a pocket monster. Jesus. Rehv, your book had better fucking be worth the crap I've spent the past two weeks or so labouring to finish. Seriously, dude. Make it GOOD. So here's the low down on Lover Please Just Do Us All a Favour and DIE, Already: (1) Bella finally manages to pop out that pain-in-the-ass baby, and - SURPRISE!!! - she survives. Yes, Z, SHE SURVIVES!!! *sings praises to the Scribe Virgin* NOW STOP BEING A WHINY LITTLE BITCH AND SHUT THE FUCK UP, ALREADY, BECAUSE YOU'RE ALMOST MORE ANNOYING THAN PHURY!!! Two peas in a fucking pod, those two. Now, if Z, Bella and Phury would get shelved with Beth, Mary and everyone else we never see again, I'd be a happy Care Bear. You hear me, J.R. Ward?! Stick them in your metaphorical closet, PLEASE, so I never have to read about them AGAIN!!! (2) Qhuinn and Blay are the new Butch and V. Not that I'm complaining ... ;D (3) Tohr is the new Phury. Kill me now. Just do it. (4) Did someone say glowing, pierced, fallen angel?? Hmmm?? I'll have some of that. YES, PLEASE!! :D (5) Xhex still skeeves me out, but - yeah - I'll read her story anyway. John Matthew is just too cute. (6) I like Revh. (7) I don't like Phury. (8) Phury is an ass-face. (9) I don't really like Z, either. Ingrate. (10) I like Cormia, Layla and the rest of the Chosen, they're sweet. Phury gets one Brownie Point for taking action. (11) Now I like Phury more than I like Z. Meh. (12) I don't think I'm going to like Payne. Why do I just *know* that The She-Male Xhex is going to be her new BFF?! (13) This book sucks ass. P.S. Did you seriously read all the crap my keyboard spontaneously spewed forth?? You have the patience of a saint. Obviously, I don't. P.P.S. Did I seriously waste THAT MUCH TIME trying to finish this piece of crap, which is essentially nothing more than an epic, not to mention useless, waste of tree?? *headdesk* P.P.P.S. I don't even know why I'm still writing. Jesus. This book is just That Bad.

Beyaz Kale - Orhan Pamuk TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

I’ve just finished reading Free as in Freedom a biography of Richard Stallman the founder of the free software movement. The title takes it’s name from the oft repeated statement used to highlight that software freedom is not about the price rather what you can do with it. The book itself is relatively short and is easy to read. It combines historical sections describing Stallman’s intellectual journey with alternating chapters describing experiences Sam Williams had while interviewing this famously prickly character. As a long time follower of the FLOSS movement I was fairly familiar with the well documented early stories of the MIT AI Lab and it’s demise following the rush to commercialise LISP machines. However Williams adds a lot more emotional colour to the story that left me feeling I had a greater understanding of Stallman’s personality. I found it hard not to sympathise with the situation Stallman found himself in and the logic of his actions that ultimately led to the GNU Manifesto. Stallman is often portrayed as a character who divides the disparate FLOSS community. People criticise him for his stubborn intransigence while missing the fact he holds his positions as a result of the logical extrapolation on sincerely held principles. It would be hard to argue that Linux would have taken off as a poster-child for Open Source had the ground work not been laid by Stallman’s GNU project. In this light the call to refer to it as GNU/Linux and the importance of understanding the philosophical underpinnings of the movement seems fairly reasonable. After reading Free as in Freedom I do feel as though I have a better understanding of why things turned out like they did. It left me feeling how lucky we are that Stallman was born into this time and wondering how different things would have been otherwise. (from my blog)
