My kids and I like watching "Supernanny" and "Nanny 911." If nothing else, these shows help me to appreciate how good I really do have it. I was intrigued by Jo Frost's book which outlines her techniques - maybe there would be something in there I could use. Essentially, the book is geared toward younger children, say up to around the age of six. I only have one that still falls into that bracket, but it was still good to have the reminder of how to lay a good foundation for behavior. She didn't reveal anything mind-boggling or anything I haven't heard before, but it was a good refresher course in how to be firm and yet loving, and how not to let the child become the ruler of your house.

When I first started reading this book I really liked how it talked about history and made it real for those of us that were not alive when it happened. I liked reading history as fiction better than a history book. As the story progressed it turned into more about hate,betrayal and revenge than historical fiction. I think that this book could have been better if the main character was more developed or stronger. To me all the characters seemed equal and that none of them were main characters.

This book gets a lot of glowing reviews, and I agree that it's a good book for what it does cover (and I've recommended it on a number of occasions). But - there are a few things about it to be aware of. First, it covers non-monagomous relationships from a decidedly poly-* viewpoint. People/couples looking into this from the lifestyle community/perspective may find this a bit disconcerting (no, neither one is "better" than the other, blah blah blah - but they are different, and it's good to keep those differences in mind while reading). Also, the section on dealing with jealosy is a bit thin - we've heard back from several couples that we've recommended this book to that they didn't find this particular section particularly helpful or useful. All that said, it's still one of the best (if not the best) books on the topic.

Not many books make me laugh out loud. With this one, I think I blew my faulty valve. Ignatius ties with Holden Caulfield as my favorite character of all time. Toole is brilliant!

Urgh. I like Tom Holt and his ability to create a parallel world within the one we recognise and I thank him for softening me up to read Terry Pratchett. He writes well, with humour and perspective and hsi retelling of mythology is often masterly (cf Snow White and the Seven Samurai, or Grailblazers). This book is just a shambles, a development too far, of the JW Wells series. I disliked intensely the TV series, "The Office" and this book seemed to be in a similar genre. I will re-read his earlier works, it will make me feel better about the man.
