This book was okay. I didn't like how they shoved religion down the main character's throat. I felt that they were not normal people living their religion, but that they were making a point to show it at every point! I did like the love story

This is probably the first time I've ever felt this way towards a book. I seriously don't know what to feel. I like that Salinger wrote it journal–like. I like that it tackles issues about phonies and how fake most people are. What I don't like is that this book is so depressing. I literally felt sorry for Holden. I mean he lives his life filled with hate and angst against people who I bet don't even care so much about him. I hate that I sort of like the way that it was ended. I hate that it left me with a few unanswered questions like: 1) Was Holden molested as a child? If yes, who did it? 2) I wonder what goes on in the Caulfield household. Phoebe wants to go away with Holden in the end. What happened to Phoebe? Was she just trying to take care of Holden? Or something else happened....? 3) What happened to calling Jane Gallagher? He mentioned a bunch of times how he'd try to call her but he never did. (J.D. SALINGER, NEVER DEPRIVE A GIRL OF LOVE STORIES..... Especially if the book you're gonna write is as depressing as this one.) Giving this book 4 out of 5 stars because (this may sound phony but it's the truth so screw you all) as depressing as it was, you can't deny the fact that Salinger is a brilliant writer to have thought of this mind boggling book. Also, this book reminds of Perks of Being a Wallflower. (googled about it and yep, it was influenced by Salinger. Wow.)

This was an interesting read, but some parts seemed to unbelievable and I felt the author stretched the realism of the story. I wouldn't recommend it to a young teen, because it talked a lot about prostitution and other related items. It just seemed a little bleak throughout the book. It got better toward the end.

I just got this book on CD for the car (since it was my childhood favorite and I wanted to pass it on to my boys), and after 3 minutes I decided to wait a few more years! Some of the themes are a little mature (mostly just the parts about child neglect and abuse). I think I'll try the book again when the boys are in 3rd and 1st grade. Anyway, I kept listening to it on my own while driving to different work appointments, and it made the car rides go by so fast. Roald Dahl is hysterical! He is incredibly creative. I need to read Matilda again before April Fool's Day-- there are a lot of great prank ideas in it. (Although, I can't imagine super-gluing anyone's hat to their head.)

MY REVIEW: Jack decides to take a vacation from his stressful life in Virginia to see his old college roommate, Punjeeh, who lives in Jerusalem. Punjeeh has been a devout Catholic since Jack met him. Lately though, Punjeeh seems to have changed, while Jack is now interested in learning more about his faith. Jack meets Chloe, a religion professor who's view on Christianity differs from anything he's ever heard before. She has a great deal of knowledge on the "Gnostic" Christians and while he is intrigued, he remains skeptical. That is, until a twist of fate puts a young man named Tariq in Jack's path. Tariq has stolen two scrolls and has decided to sell them to an American. When asked to purchase the scrolls, Jack, being a sucker for a salesman, decides to buy one. Once he finds out what it is he has received, he and his friends go on a wild goose chase to find the other scroll. These scrolls may have the answers Jack has been searching for. MY THOUGHTS: I've always been fascinated with religion. Randy is able to teach while keeping the storyline interesting. It didn't seem like I was reading a textbook, yet I learn so much from this book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about the Gnostics.

Hits just the right note for preschool and very early elementary about Fall. I like the interesting word choices: "winged migrators, hibernators.... bonfire builders, pie-crust fillers..."

Coben's plots are exciting and full of surprises. He writes with a wry humor I love. After reading two of his mysteries in a row, however, I need to stop. I don't get anything else done!

It has been a while since I read this book, but I remember really enjoying it. A nice history of machines/computing and a possible future where the "intelligence" of man and machine begins to blur. Anything by a Dyson is going to be good, you can always count on that.

This was the first book I read after converting to Christianity back in 1983.
