** spoiler alert ** I could never stop admiring this Guild Hunter series. If in the previous book Elena was a guild hunter, now she's no longer being a hunter. She has become Raphael's. People thought she was dead or was simply Made to become a vampire. But no, she's not even close to that. She has become the very first angel that made by an archangel. As we know that Archangels don't Made another archangels or angels, they Made vampires. But nothing seems to be impossible. Elena was so close to death at that time, yet Raphael wouldn't ever let Elena to die. So, here is Elena, being an angel but still a hunter for herself and Raphael, and her recovery from being so broken by Uram's attack takes over a year to recover. Raphael always stood beside her, when she was awake or when she was having a really bad dream, a nightmare that always follows her wherever she goes. After being an angel, Elena can't back to her apartment or anything includes her previous life as a hunter anymore. She's living in the Refuge now. The safe place held by Raphael. Though it's not the safest place because there are still an attack happens, but she and Raphael and the Seven can handle it well. I love the way Elena get close with Raphael's Seven, Illium, Venom, Dmitri, Gallen, and the others. They made her life far from boring and teached her how to survive with her new identity. They teached her how to defend herself, because during her recovery, apparently she lost half of her power as a hunter and that makes her looks like a baby among others. yet she's truly an angel baby :D in this book, they will face Lijuan's creatures and Neha's daughter. It's awesome to know Elena's progress increase so fast. Later she will make some moves towards Neha's daughter's attack. And she succeed :) I became very curious to the third book and I hope Elena can be more powerful than before and her relationship with Raphael can last long. I really like when they say,"We die, we die together." They really love each other and nothing could separate them :)

I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't get into it. It was a bit dry and there were a lot of times I was just like "please get on with it." It was very well written and did have good information but it was hard for me to get through. After six months I'm being honest with myself that I will just never finish this book.

You don't have to agree with Rand's theories of objectivism to appreciate this book. The characters are unforgettable, and her views of capitalism are eye opening.

Evidently #4 in a series (I haven't read the previous 3). Historical erotic romance. A desperate Irish noblewoman journeys to London, to take up the life of a whore, in an attempt to support her 5 orphaned siblings. She encounters an unknown man who hires her to play tricks on a duke. Needless to say, she falls in love with the duke, and he with her. The trickster turns out to be... well, you'll see if you read it. A few words about dialogue: When Nia is sexually excited - "Oh hh." When she's close to orgasm - "Oh hh hh." A change-up - "Oh hh, Radford," or, "Oh hh hh, love." In the final orgasmic interlude - "Oh hh hh hh!" Nia never says anything else when in the throes of passion. Not to be outdone Radford manages to say, "Judas," "Christ," "Fuck," and, of course, the slightly changed, "Ah hh." And entirely too much squealing - "'Radford,' she squealed'" as just one example. A note about the Kindle edition: The usual types of errors - underling for underlying; corpus for copse. A little racism thrown in - "gentile feminine nose." A complete change in historic location - Vaudeville Gardens for Vauxhall Gardens.

Incredibly fascinating book about 1888 snowstorm over the northern plains that left 500 dead. Discussions of immigration by Norwegians and German Mennonites from Russia; weather formation and forecasting; hypothermia and frostbite etc. A real life page turner. 15 year old Michael J. Dowling lost both legs below the knee, his lefty arm below the elbow and the fingers and most of the thumb from his right hand. He became a teacher, newspaper editor, and speaker of the house of the Minnesota State Legislature. He always told fellow amputees, "It is what one has above the shoulders that counts." Clashing weather fronts in North America's prairies unleash the world's worst weather; super cell thunderstorms spawning tornadoes in late spring; huge hail in summer; blizzards in winter. Cold fronts are so rapid standing water ices up in ridges, small animals literally freeze in their tracks, and blowing ice dust inflicts unimaginable punishment.

(This book is titled "The Book of Negroes" everywhere else but the USA...) A 5 for the "worthiness" of the story, a 3 for the skill in telling it. I'd like one indigenous woman from the past to NOT be a mid-wife or herbal healer - were they all? Really? The main character is also a Lady Forrest gump, inserted at key times in history, always recognized and appreciated for how very special she is. Dwelt too long on the already familiar ground of the journey from Africa and the US South - and didn't make it tangible. I've been to Charleston, seen the places, heard the Gullah language and it still didn't feel real. Better when it gets to Nova Scotia and Africa but still - years go by in a sentence, pain never feels real, loss and achievement ring hollow...not quite there.
