I have read all the Shopaholic books and I really loved them. They are funny, clever & a quick read. I generally don't like to read books that are in a series, but the shopaholic books are great. I look forward to the next one as soon as I am done with the one I'm reading. Scores a 10 from me!!!

The voice of the novel was strong, reminding me of Lovely Bones. Problem was a lack of any real plot beside the one decision Mia had to make - whether to return to life after the death of her immediate family. Even that decision wasn't very torturous since Mia had no evidence of what would happen to her if she allowed herself to die. Besides her faith in an afterlife where she'd see her family again, the only temptation to let go sprang from her grief over losing them. Since Mia never met another person in her situation, for all she knew, death would be oblivion. The choice of life, on the other hand, meant returning to some physical pain, along with great friends, a devoted and imaginative boyfriend, and loving grandparents. No real drama there. The conflict/drama wasn't as deep as needed to make a great story. The memory vignettes were mostly feel-good scenes, lacking drama/conflict/tension as well, so I was inclined to skim most of them. Overall, this was an okay read, well written.

Makes me wish I remembered more of what happened in White Apples, but enough is recapped that I can get by. While this is technically a sequel, I think one could probably read this without having read the other and still have it make sense. Well, as much sense as Jonathan Carroll ever does.

This was a good continuation of the Ender series. Fortunately, Card employs the recap function of many series writers, something I usually hate, but because it has been a few years since I read the previous book, I wasn't too lost. Overall it was pretty slow. There is some action, but it's very philosophically based. While I like that, there comes a point where I get tired of hearing character's thoughts and would much rather they interacted with each other more. I have the show me don't tell me syndrome. I'm also now very used to Heinlein's style of writing, which is almost exclusively dialogue. The end made very little sense to me. Without putting any spoilers in here I thought the ending was far less self-containing. I suppose I forgot there was another one after it. On to Children of the Mind!
