OHMIGOSH! LOVE!LOVELOVELOVE! This book is amazing! So many emotions flying everywhere, the plot and characters were just ingenious! I love the whole concept of the Trappers and the show for the Demon Slayers, where its set and how also added an extra feel for the book. I love the characters more than anything Riley is definitely someone I would love to meet along with the rest of course especially that little Magpie in her apartment, now he was just cute! I loved the different necromancers that dropped by they were just hectic in their own way, I loved (I say that a lot don't I?) How she had NO clue who Ozymandias was and just how she reacts to situations like that, and I enjoyed more than I should her sarcasm, where its placed in the book is such a fab touch! Simon, god would I love to meet him! Although he has his moments where I honestly think he'll snap or commit suicide (blame looking for alibrandi), I was so devastated when Ori only started appearing near the last quarter of the book, although I hope that means he'll be more in the second book! I'm SO glad that her and Beck are slowly softening up to each other and aren't as hostile although that was mainly Riley, but still! Nearly had a stroke when her dad died, a huge as* one! Hutch is someone I think I'll forever hate, although I am quite interested in his character a lot more than I should. All in all this book has been amazing, as soon as I read the summary loved it straightaway didn't even look at the cover, who ever did the back is a genius! I plan to buy the book when I find out what date the second one comes out in! =) Love, Johanness.

Oh, the hijinks that Tommy and Tuppence get themselves into. A fun, quick read.

This was a really good, quirky if not ridiculous read.

This is one of the best stories of growth I have read, perhaps because it is done in such an untraditional fashion. And tradition can get so boring after awhile.

A graphic firsthand look at the war in Sarajevo by a Croatian girl whose personal world has collapsed, this vivid, sensitive diary sounds an urgent & compelling appeal for peace. Filipovic begins her precocious journal in autumn 1991 as a contented 10-yr-old preoccupied w/ piano & tennis lessons & saturated w/ American movies, TV shows, books & rock music. Soon the bombs start falling; her friends are killed by shrapnel or snipers' bullets; her family's country house burns down, & they subsist on UN food packages, without gas, electricity or water, as thousands of Sarajevans die. Filipovic, whose circle of friends included Serbs, Croats and Muslims, blames the former Yugoslavia's politicians for dividing ethnic groups & playing hell with people's lives. She & her parents escaped to Paris, & her diary, originally published in Croat by UNICEF, was reissued in France & has already been much written about in the U.S. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A quick read - in her diary, Zlata's thoughts and ideas seem very mature for her age. She is often stoic and philosophical about what they had to deal with due to the war yet at the same time angry that it happened and that it does not seem like it will ever stop. And despite this, she remains upbeat most of the time, displaying an amazing courage and spirit throughout the ordeal.

The book production, slightly detracts from the poems. Typos, bad kerning, etc. That said, the poems were decent. I personally preferred "Lost Kingdom" to the eponymous poem in the book. It is a stark, mythic read, fixated on time, and hands. There is a tactile sense of the transience of the world, and the desire for there to be Gods and a clear origin of the world. The prose poem at the end was a shocker, in a good sense, a comfortably alienating work. Maybe it was a dream...

My daughter picked this book and loved it. She is learning to read, and this was fun for her. She likes how Cam can remember things and solve problems. She could relate to the story in the library, because we go every week. She liked how the Dad was sitting there reading and letting them look around. To read our full review, go to The Reading Tub®.
