just started this a few nights ago. My 5 yo checked this book out of the library herself for us to read at night together. this is a bit scary because there are foreboding signs of the long winter, but my kids love it. This one is a bit boring for the younger kids (5yo), but I am riveted by this story and very desperate not to put it down. I can't wait to see what happens.

I liked this sequel to Infection much better than the first book. It omitted the unnecessarily graphic stuff, introduced a quasi-human adversary (in the form of a 7-year old girl), and really the character of Scary Perry Dawsey to help save the planet. Too bad Detroit could not be saved...

** spoiler alert ** I enjoy the Nic Costa books because they are always well constructed, planned to the inch in detail, and the murderer is seldom easy to find, or figure out. However, in this one SPOILER ALERT: the murderer made one measly appearance, was not part of the story in any meaningful way. It is as if at the last minute he pulls this murderer from his hat and says, oh yeah, this is the one that did it, you don't know him, but so what. That is why I gave it a three star.

I expected more from this book -- it had moments of brilliance, but felt juvenile a lot of the time. I was never fully drawn into the story, although I love the concept.

One of the things I like best about Joan Aiken's Wolves Chronicles is that none of the books feel alike: each deals with a completely separate world (Nantucket at the height of the whaling era; South American jungles crossed with Arthurian legend; rural England crossed with Carribean voodoo), and the plots and characters are so outlandish, that each book feels completely fresh. This was the first book where I realized that good people could die, which may be why it's stayed in my memory so clearly and is one of my favorites.

Best non-fiction published so far this year. I just had no idea... no idea that so much information was hidden or not reported. Probably the best part of the book is the Cassie Myth and the boost that the Evangelical movement got from the tragedy. Wow.
