5 stars! I first read The Infernal Devices in August 24 2011 and now it's time for a re-read of my favourite steampunk trilogy. In my opinion, this is Cassandra Clare's best work. ***{after re-reading}*** “There's plenty of sense in nonsense sometimes, if you wish to look for it.” I absolutely loved this series when I first read it years ago and it seems my initial feelings haven't changed! I loved the steampunk setting (I think this was my first steampunk read), the new twist on paranormal creatures was perfect and had me intrigued throughout. It has been so long that I forgot much of the plot and even who the real villain was! But it was fun getting reacquainted with everything, especially my favourite characters: Tessa, Will, Jem, Bane, Henry, Charlotte and Sophie. The literature and poetry quoted throughout was perfect and fit the atmosphere of the scene/plot really well. It's pretty hard not to love a well written entertaining book showcasing love of literature. The developing attraction between Will and Tessa was well done too but I didn't appreciate the frustrating simmering tension, Victorian sensibilities, Will's angst and the stumbling block to Tessa and Will's romance. “Drowning yourself won't help, she told herself sternly. Now, drowning Will, on the other hand...” Will, Tessa and Jem complication was unnecessary in my opinion and my only quibble is this love-triangle but even that was well done, with slow development and believable twists in the plot. The only reason I'm satisfied with the love triangle is because at the end of the this trilogy, everything is resolved in a believable, heart-warming manner. I still remember that ending...I found it beautiful, realistic (within the bounds of the paranormal setting of the series) and just perfect. I guess that's way I'm willing to overlook minor plot and romantic issues. Something I realised after re-reading this book is that The Infernal Devices (set in 1878 London) was written after The Mortal Instruments (set in contemporary times, New York), but all this time I thought TID came first. Still, since this series is set in 1878 and there's only three book, it's better to start with TID because it helps to set the scene and it introduces you to the world of the Shadowhunters, their fight against evil forces, the laws that govern their world and all the supernatural creatures that live in it. I love the snark, the witty banter, the plot, the tension, the new twist on old supernatural themes and general atmosphere of the setting. I can't wait to read more and remember everything else I'd forgotten about this old beloved trilogy.

I highly recommend Every Other Day. ***** NON-STOP ACTION. Every Other Day should be the basis of any urban fantasy read; it was CRAAAZY good! The dual characters in one body made Kali one heck of a kick-ass heroine. The fun never stops, and when I say fun, I meant Kali’s hunt of creatures that go bump in the night. This is undoubtedly one of the best UF book I’ve read so far. Kali doesn’t know why every other day she turns into a demon hunter; all she knows is that her hunt lust must be sated. Monsters can smell her as she them, that’s why she’s vulnerable when she turns human after 24 hours – she’ll be defenseless by then. I love Kali mainly because of her ‘hero complex’. Not only did I found it noble, but she’s smart enough to have a plan once her ‘hero complex’ kicks in. Man, I wanted to be like her… I want to be HER! Kali is such a bad-ass. Zev inside Kali’s head made me think of Wanderer from The Host. I was unaware of Zev’s big role in the story but it played out well. Skylar is my next favorite character: upbeat, confident, brave. She almost drove me to tears, what with her ‘feelings’, her fondness of her brothers and how she still choose what fate has for her. Bethany is such a fun character; her constant angst-ridden retorts to Kali and Skylar made my reading very entertaining. But beneath her shallowness lies a pretty decent girl – nice! I don’t like Elliot; he’s such a wuss but a great brother to Skye nonetheless. Every Other Day is a fast-paced, action-packed book. Brace yourselves as you join Kali in battling hellhounds, ice dragons, basilisks, and will o’ the wisps (to name a few) with such confidence and lethal skill. This is not your usual paranormal/urban fantasy read so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
