This has been my first book by Mankell and there is going to be more. Not only because I love crime novels, but also because the book was simlpy a great page-turner, one-day read. I could not stop: eating, drinking, sleeping were not the part of my daily routine any more. Inspector Wallander makes mistakes, gets sidetracked and so what? This only adds excitement to the story even more so as there is a mad serial killer at large. As I believe telling a plot of a detective story spoils the whole fun, I am not going to say a single word more about it. I admit I decided to read the book because I have seen one or two episodes of the TV series based on Mankell's books, but even though I was really more interested in listening to the beauty of Swedish language (which I can't understand) than in what was actually going on, still I could not help being attracted to the story and the characters. And so I got my first book by Mankell, which in fact happens to be the fourth or so of the series. So much more to read. Is it not great?

I wasn't fully sold on Edward in Twilight and New Moon came along and definitely made me "Team Jacob". As with The Host, I struggle to fall for Meyer's leading men. I prefer the men she keeps on a cruel hook, seemingly destined to lose. At least they show some range of emotion! Edward is so one-dimensional. His devoted following baffles me. He's like a cloyingly sweet dessert that fills you with nothing but regret. So not worth it! I don't get it at all.

I expected more out of this book. The first half was more interesting and also more heart breaking. The author struggled through life not knowing he was dyslexic until he was an adult. Then he goes more indepth regarding dyslexia. He implies some details that are not completely factual. It was an easy read though and can give insight to those struggling with learning disabilities.

These are just fun little books that are easy to read and not super complicated, but I think they would be great for upper-elementary age and middle school age students who don't want to read inappropriate books.
