Maria talks about this book with verve all the time, I decided now that summer is unofficially here (ala Memorial Day) and the baseball season is in full swing (despite those Birds poor showing), it's time for me to get on the bandwagon.

It definitely wasn't as engrossing as the first book. I blame the plot. Not because the plot is necessarily terrible, but because of all the things the plot necessitates. The plot takes them to the desert, and with it, the Carving. And because of this, there are precious few characters present in the book. Which is a difficult situation when you don't necessarily empathize with all of them. Also, the book moves to shifting POVs, which in my opinion, is SUPER distracting. I don't always mind it, but with this book, I did. I almost wanted to read the entire book in Ky's perspective. It was more interesting. Cassia DEFINITELY got on my nerves. (view spoiler) All in all, I did like the book, but not nearly as much as Matched.

I just read this book for the third time (the second time I read it in French). It always remains intriguing

I have long wanted to read a novel by Ms. Gordimer, a South African writer and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature for 1991, and finally had the time to do so. The Pickup was published in 2001 and is just a lovely little book that packs in a lot of power and also poetry to soften the edges. I highly recommend this book even though the story might not seem believable I like how the author brings racial tension, religious differences and love of two very different people together to a magnificent effect of understanding our differences in culture, love and religion. Her descriptions of Africa are lovely and harsh and the clash of those are just an amazing feat of her writing skill. Looking forward to reading more of this author!

I think the author did a very good job of finishing up the multiple storylines that were in this series. Whlie well written, I'm not sure if this third book, or the series, lived up to my expectations based on other reviews I've seen.

I have been one of Myke Cole's alpha readers for many years, and think this is by far his best work. Control Point has an original premise: what if magic returned to the modern world and only one person in a million could access it? Answer: They'd be drafted. This is a stellar book, combining all the military realism of Black Hawk Down with the social commentary and awesome spectacle if the X-Men. I highly recommend it and will write a more lengthy review closer the the pub date.

This book was really different. It takes place at Folly Beach in the South. The main character is a recent widow who is relieved rather than mourning. She has some major trials in the first part of the book and decided to return to Folly Beach, where she grew up. The book alternates between chapters of a play written about past residents of Folly Beach with what is happening in this widow's life, and what she learns along the way.

She should stick to writing non-fiction tales of her own life because those books are amazing & wonderful. This book was just barely good enough to keep me interested in reading the whole thing. Pretty much every time I read it I thought I have to not read this any more and read something better but there was a little germ of goodness in there the kept me hooked.

end - The end pissed me off. Perhaps for personal reasons as our protagonist ended up just as undetermined about his next move in life as I am right now. pshuh! Sappy happy ending. I don't mind happy endings, but this one took a stupid relationship twist that wasn't all that developed. I wanted to give it two stars, but it was just easy enough to read that it didn't suck. What I'll remember aobut this book is how I made the attempt to read it without breaking the spine so I can send it to my older brother, the football guy, later. teehee pg 167 - This slowed down a bit. Odd considering we just got to the point of our protagonist playing in his football games. Not sure Grisham gets the rapidity of this genre. Alas, we're moving into the love story part. Let's see how he does with this. What he HAS done well, as he did with the other football book 'Bleachers' is the establishment of character relationships. Regardless, it's making for an ideal Bedside tome. pg 76 - This one doesn't appear to be a courtroom drama. Grisham doesn't always do well with these. Alas, the colorful way he writes about Italian food may make up for it.

Yediğimiz yemeğin ahlaki etkilerini düşünmek ilginçti, ancak bu hikayeye Transister Radio ile olduğum kadar dalmış değildim.
