Liked it a lot when I read it...in 1988. It would be strange to read about 'then', now.

You had me, Cat Patrick. You had me for a significant portion of this novel. Then you totally lost me. You did, however, inspire me to read up on short-term memory loss. For those of you wondering what the heck that has to with anything, this book’s main character is a teenage girl who “resets” every morning around 4am. Each night, she writes notes for herself of things she needs to read for school, what she should wear tomorrow, and any developments with family and friends. The entire book keeps the reader wondering what the impetus for the memory loss was and whether London Lane (yes) will be able to regain some of her lost memories. London’s mother and best friend know of her memory situation but there is no mention of anyone else knowing—do her peers her teachers know? I feel it is unbelievable if they don’t. There is no way that someone can write notes for their entire life and keep them detailed enough to pass as their normal self in everyday life. Right? Think of all the details. Updating herself on every day of her life every single morning? I’m skeptical. Another point that creeped me out a bit was London’s relationship with Luke. If every day is the first day you are meeting someone, it is beyond creepy that you would ever sleep with him. Or love him. Sure, I can see London trusting herself in her notes but she really had no reason to because she repeatedly wrote what she wanted next-day London to know, not what actually happened or what she needed to know. Neither Luke nor London are having a normal relationship here and I didn’t find myself rooting for either of them. The mystery element of this book builds slowly and then just punches you in the face at the end. In a bad way. I know I would’ve enjoyed this book more if the unraveling was simpler. (view spoiler) And I know that television shows exaggerate the amount of evidence that DNA and bodies can confirm but (view spoiler) Umm, yeah. All in all, I still thought this book was an okay read. The problems I had were all plot and character related rather than dealing with the writing style. I’ll read more that this author writes. 2.5 stars.

Dancing, and princesses too (!), but for some reason I'm having a REALLY hard time getting into this. I hope I didn't make a mistake giving it as a birthday gift to a friend... I didn't realize I hadn't come back to this to update my review, although I really thought I had.... Do I need to re-read Forgetting Alice and take the tests again? Hmmm, I remember discussing this with Colleen, maybe in my mind I'm remembering that instead of updating on Goodreads. Liked this a lot better as I continued with it, was wholly invested by the end. Not enjoying it from the start may have had less to do with the story/writing and more to do with the fact that I only read bits at a time (instead of starting it then staying up all night to finish, or ignoring all my responsibilites to read till I'm done, like I usually do).

Best fantasy series ever written. Bar none.

I enjoyed this story very much. It's basically a retelling of Pride & Prejudice, from Darcy's viewpoint. Though there are many novels out there that try to expand upon the original story, this one is still worth a read.

D.E.N.S.E. But, I felt remarkably smart reading it on the Google shuttle, in the face of the Jr. engineer, plowing through his highlighted copy of "You: The Owners Manual". The feeling lasted, too. I.e. Anyone down to get arcane viz. Algeria and France and the US and Iraq(Iran)? Because baby, I'm equipped.

This is of course a reference to Dante's first circle of hell... Amazing account of a select group of scientists, engineers, etc who were political prisoners at the highest level- the first circle. Essentially, they were too valuable to kill so they worked in a kind of R&D prison for the Soviet military/ industrial machine. I would recommend reading "One Day..." or "The GULAG" first as background, then this book- which is more interesting and written better.

I hate blood and gore on TV and in the movies but sometimes, well most times, I enjoy it in a book. The world of Kell's Legend is well thought out and I was sucked into the story and the obvious quest to save the world. Looking forward to the other books in the series.

I was not a fan of CH until I read her books. She is razor sharp and shameless. A perfect combination for a laugh out loud read.
