This story (and this edition, with its lovely illustrations), always does make me cry. It's a sad and lovely and gentle story, and it does make me hope that one day we can all be loved enough to be Real.

A rollicking fun book about the fate of Earth and space-alien invaders. It was probably intended as a kids book, but is great fun for any age. The book is written in a very captivating stream-of-consciousness manner.

in perfect Salinger style, he has these moments of brillance that, really, can be missed if you don't read closely. Some of the descriptions he uses ("Where once, a few years earlier, her eyes alone culd break the news...that two of her sons were dead...now...she was apt to use this same terrible Celtic equipment to break the news...that the delivery boy hadn't brough the leg of lamb...") are indescripable and you can just see and feel what he typed. There are many, many other places I could cite, but I won't. In the end, I highly recommend this book. There is more to it than I've placed here and more to take from it than I could ever write about. I also recommend Catcher in the Rye. Salinger is hard to relate to and yet so very easy. He writes of a youth that very few people experience but there is always something where you can read it and nod your head and say 'ah yes that I understand.'

I loved this book as much as I enjoyed Doms of Dark Haven 1. All of the stories in the book were very good. Each very specific to the strengths of each author but twined together nicely. Very hot and addictive. The only problem I had was that it kept me so involved in the story that I couldn't put it down and I read it way faster than I would have liked. I can't wait to return to Dark Haven!!

I'm certainly not the first to say that this book is beautifully written and crafted. There were times in the middle when it flagged a bit for me, but I also blame that on having to set the book down for several days because of general busyness. The ending was so fragile and beautiful it made me cry, even though I was sitting on the subway at the time.
