Max's birthday party was supposed to be held outdoors, but the sudden rain kept everyone inside. When he, Erin, and April are exploring Max's attic while waiting on Erin's mom to come pick Erin and April up, they stumble across a hidden room containing an old mirror. When the light atop the mirror is turned on, whoever is standing in front of it vanishes--turned invisible! That's strange enough, but when Max has been invisible for too long, he starts to feel odd, like the mirror is pulling him in. Could there be more to this mirror than meets (or doesn't meet) the eye? The sixth book in R. L. Stine's Goosebumps series, Let's Get Invisible! offers a much more fantastical story than the previous book, The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb . Max is concerned about whether the mirror is really safe, but his friends only seem interested in competing to see who can stay invisible the longest, and his little brother, Lefty, only wants to use it to pull pranks. Let's Get Invisible! is at least as well written as the previous book in the series, with a more interesting story. The characters didn't grab me as well as Gabe and Sari in The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, but they're not bad--though I admit it took me a few pages to realize that the girl nicknamed 'Mouse' wasn't the shy one. That's what I get for making assumptions. (Spoilers removed. The full review, including spoilers, is available here.) Let's Get Invisible! is a good book, with a different kind of horror than the usual monsters-and-danger kind. It doesn't seem to be available for the Kindle, but it's not hard to get it used, so you can still read it, if you like. Give it a try!

This was an excellent book, I really enjoyed the world-building and the character development, however some plot points seemed a bit disconnected

I admit to being in a somewhat unusual situation. I like to camp, but I don’t have a car, so I get to campgrounds by a combination of hiking and public transit. Although this limits my camping choices I still found some great suggestions in this book. I was inspired to find a way to the San Juan Islands, although I will have to keep looking longingly at the Olympic peninsula. And perhaps a voucher for a ride out east to Beverly or Owhi will make its way on to my Christmas list. Or maybe just a more up to date version of this book. Often included is a short history of the campground, if it had good fishing or hiking, and occasionally surprising specific recommendations on which numbered campsite to stay at. There are different versions of this book for other states so my midwestern friends might want to check out Best in Tent Camping: Missouri and the Ozarks by Steve Henry.

I used the 1998 hardcover edition of this book, published in New York by Grosset & Dunlap, which has 276 pages. I am glad to have finally read this book, although I am fairly sure that it is an edited version as I had heard before reading it that some of the character descriptions were fairly racist, as well as some of the illustrations. I found this blog article, which outlines the changes made by Christopher Lofting, the son of the author: http://blog.plover.com/book/Dolittle.... That being said, I thought it was a delightful fantastical book. And even though it is one of the worst movies ever made, according to the critics, I loved the 1960s musical version with Rex Harrison. It was part of the reason why I wanted to read the book in the first place. The description of the Doctor's house and gardens with the zoo I found particularly fascinating, as was his study of shellfish and eventually meeting the Great Sea Snail. It is sad that the first two books are the only ones in libraries nowadays, when the author wrote fourteen books in total.

This brought back good memories of my childhood. Sadly some memories also got tarnished, as the quick paced action adventure I remembered turned out to feel as if it was missing huge chunks to my adult mind. Still worth a read but perhaps it is something best read with the kids.

This was dark, but very enjoyable. I had a hard time putting it down.

I will forever maintain that Sandman is the best comic ever written. Gaiman was originally given the task of resurrecting a not particularly interesting golden age DC superhero, and instead, managed to change comics forever. He created the Endless- Destiny, Death, Destruction, Dream, Desire, Despair, and Delirium (who used to be delight), created a whole new mythology based on so many sources- Greek/Roman/Egyptian/Norse mythology, fairy tales, fables, DC comic book characters, and of course, Gaiman's own brilliant, twisted psyche. Even if you don't think you like comic books, you should read the Sandman books. They are not like any "comic" you have ever read before, and Gaiman is a true genius. The Doll's House is where Gaiman really started to find his pacing for the series, but I promise, it only gets better from here.
