Another mystery, this time YA. I loved it. Chris and Win set out on a cross country bike trip the day after they graduate from high school. Chris comes from a blue collar family, very supportive and loving. Win's family is very well off but distant and emotionally cold, and even mean. The boys get almost to their destination and Win takes off when Chris has a flat tire. Chris gets mad and returns home alone. He starts college, etc, but Win never returns home. Win's disappearance starts a world of trouble for Chris.

I had heard that this memoir was about the murder of the author's sister, so I was a bit surprised that this indident didn't happen until the very end of the book. The author spends the early part of the book dealing with family relationships, and the marriages/relationships of her and her sister. It was interesting to me that from the outside looking in, clearly there was impropriety and abuse, and yet these incidents left the author feeling that these things happened because SHE had done something wrong. Her continual efforts to be perfect, to avoid trouble, must have been utterly exhausting. While the book deals with a difficult topic, it is uplifting to see how the victim's family survived and how the author broke free of her own abusive relationship.
