it's not any kind of sociology, but rather one guy decides to look up some of his classmates 10 years after high school and see how they're doing. You can't really draw any conclusions from it, but it did give me hope that maybe my own graduating class isn't too bad off.

One of my favorite books. A great story that revolves around a theme of personal challenge, growth and discovery without being sappy or boring. Amazing and likeable characters that seem cut from the childhood I wish I had. Everyone should read this book, even if you don't like fish!

This book is the best account of the Belfast punk scene that I've found so far. (Although, I've only been able to find two books--total! The other is quite valuable in that it contains photos of the time and place.) Anyway, Hooley's book is highly readable. Enjoyable too. Hooley is one part hippy and one part punk which is a combination I can totally understand. Other accounts of the 70s punk scene (including those outside of Belfast) *so far* have been a bit too disjointed to present a clear picture. Others more familiar with punk and what was actually happening at the time might not need this for a starting point, but I found it extremely helpful. This may be only one man's perception of the scene, but it forms a good foundation for further exploration. And the music rocks. ;-) I also bought the Good Vibrations singles compilation. If you know nothing of Northern Irish punk, give the Undertones "Teenage Kicks" a listen. There's much more, but that's the easiest to find.
