My first and FAVORITE Jane Green novel. Definitely start with this one.

The Girl in the Green Raincoat, by Laura Lippman, A-minus, narrated by Linda Emmond, produced by Harper Audio, downloaded from audible.com. This is the latest in the Tess Monaghan series. Tess is pregnant. She continued her investigations, including long surveillances, until in her third trimester she almost lost the baby. The doctor ordered her to stay in bed for most of the last three months. Tess is bored and cranky and feeling sorry for herself. She watches people walking their dogs in the park right outside her window-especially one young woman who arrives at the same time each day. She wears a green raincoat and walks a greyhound wearing a little coat that looks like hers. The walks occur regularly for several days, and then one day Tess sees the dog running free with the woman nowhere to be seen. Tess watches for the next few days and the woman doesn’t reappear. Believing that all is not well, and that she must do something herself to make the police look for the woman, she and her sometime staff, Whitney, (also her best friend) and Mrs. Blossom, put a plan in action. The idea is to trap the woman’s husband as other wives and girl friends of his have disappeared or died in suspicious ways. But things don’t go as planned, and Tess almost brings disaster down upon herself and her unborn baby. A very good book. Of course Tess, who is now a mother, and who appears about to finally marry Crow, will probably take some different directions in future books, but I hope we don’t lose the Tess as investigator and the interaction particularly between her and Whitney.

This book is super interesting. Randall Balmer, in the late 1980s, took a stroll through America in an attempt to identity some unique strands to the unwieldy subculture of evangelicalism (or fundamentalism, as he generally doesn't discriminate between the two). The result is a fascinating glimpse at the wide diversity of traditions (or counter-traditions) that have emerged under the umbrella of evangelicalism. Each chapter chronicles the exploits of a specific community or phenomena as a case study for that specific trend, be it health-and-weath prosperity gospel to stanch, codified fundamentalism. It's quite a ride, though rather cynical at points. While it doesn't work as history per se, his sketch of the traditions that have developed in reaction to "modernism" are very interesting. I'd recommend it to anyone who wonders what evangelicalism is or what that term entails.

Think I should have read book 1 first. This one felt lacking relationship wise - but this might be due to my lack of knowledge of the characters previous interactions together in book 1 and the shortness of the story.

I think this book is lovely. And the recipes we tried were really good.

This book was nothing more than some modern day version of "A Little Princess", with out the "little" or "Princess". "A Great and Terrible Beauty" was an excruciatingly painful read. Filled with shallow girls and drama more consistent to "Gossip Girl", you couldn't even tell if these girls were friends or "frenemies". Bray's aim might have been for the reader to want to go back in time to experience the Victorian era. This book is far from magical and the concept of a magical realm was hardly explained and made little sense.

Wonderful story of a K2 climber who through a fateful mistake began a journey building schools for girls in Pakistan and has extended it. His journey begins in Berkeley - in the 90's... Excellent!

Do you know you are living in a modern day Babylon? Well, Daniel is a book that is relative of today. You would be surprised at how convicted you feel after doing this study. I am amazed at how much I loved learning the history as well. Check it out!
