The story of Daniel and Aube begin in the middle of their relationship. They are togheter since three year now, and during the story we come to know that Daniel has met Aube in a Montreal Hospital after Aube has tried to committe suicide cause a rape and the ostinately refuse of his mother to accept his omosexuality. Daniel is a former soldier, now self-defense instructor, both for the police than for social assistance. He is big and gentle, quite and strong. He loves Aube and believe in him like man and artist. He wants that his lover learn again to fly. Aube is a flamboyant canadian artist, all energy. He can't be still for long, and he needs Daniel in his life to balance all this energy. But Daniel is not a oppressive character, he doesn't put Aube in a fluffy box and hides him from the world. Like he says in the book, Aube is like a butterfly who has to fly and he is the ivy where he can find rest. In this book you will not find so much sex, but instead a story of two men who fight against the world to build a life togheter. I can't say which character I love more between Daniel and Aube: they are different like fire and water, but like fire and water they are essential to life, and you can't have one without the other... http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/86...

The story and illustrations are charming. I especially liked how the book is organized into "chapters," each consisting of a few pages. That alligator is adorable. I could totally see this as a gift pack with a stuffie, although I do not need ANY more stuffies in this house.

While this monograph is dated (published 1989), it does offer good points when it comes to drawing out archaeological sites/ finds.

I'm giving this three stars because I feel like it is a book of historical importance, especially within the realm of Caribbean literature, culture and ethics. Many people are surprised to know this was written before "Uncle Tom's Cabin", and the pitiful plight of Sab, a black slave on a Cuban plantation, definitely propelled the antislavery movement forward. The language (in Spanish) is rich and lush, and the plot and pacing of the story are compelling. My dislike stems from a general dislike of overly-sentimental 19th Century writing. I found the diction a bit flowery for my taste, and the human emotions a bit TOO dramatic--lots of tears, love declarations, and fainting.

Most great English novels of the 20th century owe something to Thackeray. Vanity Fair is a milestone in western literature. Still as funny and readable as it was in 1848.
