A really easy and satisfying read. Always Looking Up picks up where Lucky Man leaves off, both in content and time. Once again, I am struck by Michael J. Fox's writing abilities. He writes with grace and wit, even humor (especially when he writes about being a father). As in Lucky Man, he jumps around chronologically, so you really want to read the date at the beginning of each passage, if you want to put events into context. This book focuses primarily on Fox's experiences with Parkinson's Disease, and he does a remarkable job describing the symptoms and helping the reader to understand what a PD patient goes through. For Fox, it's not so much a "battle" with PD; the way he explains it, it's more like a journey. Through his chapters on work and politics, Fox illustrates why celebrities are so uniquely positioned for philanthropy: besides bringing attention to whatever particular cause they support, they also have the money and means to fundraise and simply "get things done." Having known nothing in advance about Fox's ideas on religion, the chapter on faith was particularly interesting. I was impressed with his self-awareness and insight. The kind of acceptance and inclusion he writes about spoke to me in terms of my own religious outlook. Overall, an uplifting book. In his late 40's, Fox is younger than the age at which most patients are diagnosed with Parkinson's, yet, having Young Onset PD, he's lived with it for 18 years already. Still, he seems genuinely appreciative of every piece of good fortune in his life.

** spoiler alert ** This was a fun read! I decided to read it because someone told me it was hilarious. I didn't think it was so funny, though. I enjoyed it--light chick lit. The only thing I didn't like was the mention of lesbians, but that was just a plot device. Too bad that she had sex with Patrick, but it was not described as too torrid.

I once wrote my senior thesis on existentialism in "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead". I've since out grown it.

I have read this series (the princess tales) over and over and now I am reading them to my little sister.I love how the fairy gives the punishment to Myrtle and she loves it.Then she gives Rosella the reward and she hates it! This is a wonderful tale and I would recommend this book to all!

Coming closer to a close... I wonder if it could really happen in this book. We kind of lost Tuon in this book. Matt loses an eye. Perrin wins over the whitecloaks.

Centuries of June is set in the bathroom of Jack's home. Jack finds himself dying on his bathroom floor and is visited by a trail of women who all have tales to weave for him. These tales take place over a course of time spanning from pre-Colombian times to present, including stories from the Salem witch trials, Southern Gothic, and Native American folklore and mythology. Jack begins inserting himself into the stories, and he finds that the women seem to be familiar to him. While the stories themselves seem to be unrelated, they are tied together in the end. I was intrigued by the concept of Centuries of June from reading the synopsis. I am new to Keith Donohue's work, and that also drew me to the book as I am challenging myself to branch out and read new authors this year. While his writing is definitely not my usual style, I found Centuries of June to be well written and darkly humorous. The plot felt confusing at times, and although I found the stories told by the women to be entertaining, I found myself bored and distracted while reading. Personally, I would have preferred to read the women's stories as short stand-alone novellas. However, I am impressed by the creativity it took to weave the stories together in this manner. I did enjoy elements of the book, and if I'm 100% honest with myself, I'll admit that I most probably would have enjoyed Centuries of June more had I not been staring down a stack of must-read sequels to some of my most favorite books. As a lover of books, I have to comment on how beautiful the book itself is. The cover is mysterious and alluring, the book feels good in the hand, and the pages are wonderful. They are thick, with roughened, uneven natural edges. (Yeah, I know - I'm a total geek, but I was so impressed with the look and feel of the actual book, I couldn't not comment on it! It's rare that I find a book that makes me want to open it just because of the beauty and feel of the pages.) You're laughing - I can tell. But seriously, it's a beautiful book!

I am a huge Nora Roberts fan. Always have been. But I was totally not impressed with this story. It was a little too much on the "out there" side for me for such a short story. While I love the fantasy that is in a lot of her books, I didn't like the way it was intertwined into this one.

A great sense of theme with a subtle humour. A tedious read at times due to the attention on detail but it is all necessary and it doesn't bog the pace of the action down too much. The concept is genuinely intriguing and the narrative execution is brilliantly paced and concise. A fantastic read.
