Story about a woman who is in a coma after a hit and run but can hear everything, and finds out who really tried to have her killed. Kind of dragged on and everything ended up just a little too perfect in the end.

Angela's Ashes was interesting - I enjoyed learning about life in famine in Ireland. The characters were interesting, but it ended with too many questions for me! I did enjoy the final chapter - just 3 letters!

This book was okay, it was an intriguing story line, but I felt like the ending was disappointing. Also depressing.

Thursday Next is a SpecOps detective in an alternate universe where everyone is obsessed with literature and the Crimean War has raged on for over a hundred years. This world is also supernatural, in that time travel is possible, as is travel into and out of books. Thursday works to capture Hades, who has a plot to gain fame and fortune, in part by kidnapping Jane Eyre for ransom. Along the way, she regains her true love Landen and sort of comes to terms with herself and her life. Themes: literature, time, fluidity of reality, pacifism (sort of) This book just didn't come together for me. The idea was there, but Mr. Fforde focused on the idea and ignored developing his characters or polishing his writing. The Crimean War thing didn't seem to fit with the rest of the story even remotely and many twists and turns in the story felt conveniently abrupt. The writing was also lukewarm overall, and occasionally poor - at one point Thursday literally picks up a mirror and describes her physical appearance; isn't that the first overused device we learned never to succumb to in Creative Writing 101?

If you liked "Flags of Our Fathers," you must read "Flyboys." Bradley does a great job of not only detailing the lives and deaths of the U.S. Flyboys during WWII, but also takes a look on the other side -- that of the Japanese soldiers during that time. I know I gasped out loud at some points and cried in others. All in all, another knockout for James Bradley.

I always feel like a louse when I don't like a book that is basically sweet and harmless. This one is just that sweet, and harmless with an upbeat ending. It also features a talking dog, a lady with brain cancer, a false accusation of rape, and lots and lots of talk about racing - none of which endeared the book to me. It's also predictable, filled with cliches and painfully badly written dialog. This one wasn't my cup of tea.

** spoiler alert ** My least favorite of the series, but still LOVED it. I am a strange one...I like both Jacob and Edward. So I may have liked this one more than the average Twilight fan. My heart belongs to Edward in the end though.

Someday Angeline was one of my favorite books when I was younger. I read it countless times.

Brief yet interesting story about the race to solve the problem of how to calculate longitude. There were huge monetary rewards offered by the governments of several European countries. They actually tested a snake-oil theory called 'Powder of Sympathy' on wounded dogs they took out to sea, often having to rewound the dogs during the voyage. Creepy. The person with the best plan was also the most self-critical standing in his own way of claiming the prize.

this book is pretty badly written, but the story is so great and weird--it's a vampire romance written by a mormon. fun, right?
