I picked this book up at an English bookstore in Paris a few years back and found the writing to be absorbing. The imagery in this book is amazing. The stories and characters are compelling as well. One of my top reads in the past few years.

There's nothing like a classic Asimov novel. They're like logic puzzles with a hard sci-fi center. Totally loved reading about Solaria in this one. It's especially cool if you've read Foundation and Earth, you'll see where Solaria is heading.

Wow! Great book! I'm so glad I own the other 2 in this series. I've always been a die-hard "Twilight" fan, but I think I have a new favorite paranormal series! Excellent characters, excellent writing and enough suspense to keep the pages turning long into the wee hours of the morning!!

Читая, невозможно не окунуться в атмосферу этой книги; лежа теплой осенью дома на кровати кажется, что вокруг идет снег, скоро рождество, а сама я нахожусь в поместье, которое скрывает много тайн... Очень понравилось. Для тех, кто хочет отвлечься и окунуться в какой-то абсолютно другой мир, отличный от современной жизни, книга просто отличная.

This book sounded good in the sales blurb on a book selling site....I didn't like it as it was nothing new.....same format....what is was like...what happened....and what it is like now.....it seems always with a happy ending which isn't always how it works

This was bought for my son, but was too old for him(as he's only 10) so I ended up reading it myself. Very much a teen book, this reminded me of "Z for Zachariah" (which they actually mention in the book) which I read in high school and which had a big impact on me at the time. Reading this book as an adult, it is certainly very 'teen', with everything explained very clearly and somewhat obviously - like Marsden wanted to make sure the reader understood the morals and themes of the book ,without much room for the reader to make his/her own decisions or thoughts. However, I still read it in one sitting (foolishly late into the night!) as it did grip me - although I was a bit discouraged to find out there are 7 books in the series before I find out the conclusion! (Not sure how Marsden is going to maintain interest through another 6 books!). The best part was definately the section where the kids come out of the bush and find their homes deserted. This had a great atmosphere and was very eerie and haunting. Overall, I would recommed this book to high school aged kids. It was entertaining and enjoyable, even if it had the definite feel of an English required reading text!
