On the fence about this one...between three and four stars... This is a dark book, filled with all the depravity of human existence, sexual and otherwise. There are scenes that are so painful to read about that you keep hoping for a little comic relief that just never comes. The noteworthy aspect of the book is the author's narrative and perspective -- it's the collective "we" of the teenage boys in the novel whose friend goes missing. We get a perspective that is all of them and some of them at the same time. What I find most fascinating about the narrative is that it is written by a woman; there is no flowery prose or feminine musings of any kind. The brillance of the novel starts in the middle and works its way toward the end. I won't spoil anything, but the reader begins to lose sight of what really happened to Nora, and what is in the imaginations of the boys. The author skillfully weaves details that could be read in multiple ways and the details keep building until you think you know what happens. Pittard isn't trying to hide that the stories are all conjecture, but the reader can't help trying to solve the mystery anyway...

The characters are almost entirely unlikely, and there is a LOT of disturbing subject matter, but underneath all that, there is a lot that most people can probably relate to.

This book is so INTERESTING BUT first who have to read the first book TTYL.This book shows three girls Angela,Maddie,Zoe, in there senior year in Hiskcool.They plan plans so they can do stuff together and have fun.But everything is almost ruined with Boys,and um i forgot her name but it gets ruined.Then the school Prom is here and the girls are having problems with there boyfriends.Then...Anyways this book was new in Ms Lacy books.

Not entirely surprising based on Collins' background, this book is fairly business-oriented in language, theories and concepts. That being said, I appreciate Collins' desire to research the social sector and explore how the social sector is unique from business (duh) and how organizations can strive "from good to great." This monograph does use some excellent concrete examples of various nonprofits which would even make for very interesting case studies if written more in-depth about them.

Pretty common-sense advice, such as: -be consistent -don't give in to whining -follow through with consequences the first time a child disobeys instead of nagging etc. I think you would read this same (good) advice in any child-rearing book, but this was presented in a disturbingly Dobsony way. My very favorite part of the book was when Dobson was listing all the horrible things teens were into in the 70s such as drug usage and vandalism, and he included "civil disobedience" in the list! Oh, those horrible, undisciplined teens who go to sit-ins and non-violent protests! Oh, the horror! : ) Like I said, disturbingly Dobsony. Also, amusingly un-P.C. by today's standards.

Pelecanos is good - he writes about 'real' people, who live 'real' lives, who are forced to act in 'real' ways. This is an easy read about a family's problem with their son, and about how he grows up. Crime, bad guys and other stuff happen, but it is really about a family dealing with some of their problems. Enjoyable, but not complex or brilliant.

This is a dark and strangely off putting book. The characters are dark and twisty and very unlikable at points but the story haunts you well after the book is put back on the self. Its a book that is worth talking about.

This might be the best of the pigeon books. My favorite attempt to persaude the reader is when the pigeon invites you to have a HOT DOG PARTY (!!!) with him instead of sleeping. Awesomeee.
