Jodi’s latest book is about the nineteen minutes that elapse during a school shooting in a New Englad high school in a post-9/11 world. The book involves several characters that have played big roles in previous books, so that was nice, to be able to get a little more of their stories and understand a bit more about their motivations, having already seen them in other stories. Like most of her books, she doesn’t shy away from the tough questions that people ask in these kind of situations, and while the book ends with some resolution, there are clearly no easy answers when you’re talking about things like school violence. I really enjoyed this one, despite the tough topics.

Exceptional intro to philosophy! Great primary source incorporation in a comprehensive and dumb-downed-enough way.

WOW! I couldn't put this book down until I was finished. Suspense through the whole thing. I really enjoyed reading it.

Fantastic! First book, in I don't know how long, that I stayed up ALL night to finish it. Got to bed about 4am. The last couple of SB's books have been a little flat for me. Too much detail I guess when I am just looking for meat in my stories. However, THIS book completely restores my faith in this author. I left this book alone for some time because of all the Dave/Decker hype. I wanted to like (or not) the book on its own merits not because of the "OMG she ends up with HIM" element. Unlike others I have not really had a preference one way or another about this whole storyline. I mean I trusted the author to bring this whole scenario to a satisfactory conclusion. AND SHE DID!!! As I said, I read this in one complete sitting. Resented even having to get up to take the dog out for her nightly pee! From the very first sentence I was hooked. AND it wasn't to see who Sophia would end up with, but I wanted to see one of my favourite characters, Dave, come into his own. Very nice indeedy. In fact I enjoyed each of the multiple threads in this storyline. This time around SB brought her game superbly to being able to satisfactorily juggle many balls in the air so to speak. I usually have a favourite thread and sometimes get impatient to get back to it, but in this case each and every thread had me hooked. I thought SB absolutely nailed completely how Tracey should deal with Decker and how Decker's angst should get resolved. I also liked the fact that fairly early on I was certain of who would end up with who - I liked that, there were no real anxious moments for me. Even though Dave showed his 007 side, amongst his ALWAYS, ALWAYS sensitive side - he never came across as anything but yummy. No wussiness in sight. Strong characters (loved esp. Tracey, Dave and Jimmy). Superb plotting - the rhythm of the book kept me completely engrossed even when I was starting to see double!. Great tension between all 3 featured couples. Sex was hot (although only 2 couples got to have sex!) though sporadic. Only (very) slight negative was Decker's ummmm fetish? (don't know what else to call it). I thought maybe is fear of only getting off on violent sex may have been played up a bit more. But this in didn't in absolutely any way detract from my complete and utter enjoyment of this book. IMO, the best of the series. Highly recommended

** spoiler alert ** I loved this! Yet another case where the book was better than the movie. Dont get me wrong- I love the movie and the cast was phenomenal. However, the story in the graphic novel was so much more relatable. Instead of Enid falling for creepy ol' Seymour and forming a relationship with him (who, by the way, is Bob Skeets), she throws herself at a guy her age. Perhaps my favourite scene was when she gets home from the almost-sex with Josh, is wallowing in a pool of self-loath, and her father has set out a record player with a childhood record she'd been searching all over town for. It sent her through a wave of nostalgia and reminded me of something very dear my own father would do for me. I'm still not exactly sure about the end, though. It seems like a lot of time passes from when Enid doesn't pass the Strathmore exam to when she sees Becky and Josh eating inside the diner, likely as adults. That part was a bit confusing.

This has to be the worst book I have ever read! I struggled so much with it.....a very cheesy, trashy read, so glad I didn't by any of the sequels.

I read this book in college, and I remember being really affected by it. I am giving it four stars because I can only remember little snippets of the book, and I really need to read it again. I have no doubt that this would be a five star review if I had read it recently. The one thing that stuck with me is the idea of hell characterized by what it does not have: peace, hope, God. Opposing the traditional view of fire, brimstone, pain, etc. It made me think about what makes life bearable for us. We (humans) need something to strive for, to achieve. We need hope, and without that our existence is miserable.
