I read and quickly fell in love with If I Stay years ago. I never, ever expected a sequel, which made me sad, and when I saw that this book was actually going to exist-not just in my imaginary perfect world-I jumped for joy! I didn’t know what to expect, as I refused to read much on it before I actually picked it up, not wanting to raise my expectations to unreachable heights. That turned out to work splendidly for me, as every part of Where She Went was wonderfully different from how I pictured it could be. I was immediately drawn into the storyline, as Adam’s and Mia’s lives have changed so drastically from the end of the first books. Three years have passed, and they’ve grown up, each starting to decide what they want to do with the rest of their lives and acting upon it. The pages seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, the book was finished. I love the writing style of this book, full of imagery and great detail. I could really picture everything that was going on, as well as see how Adam was feeling and know exactly why he was feeling that way. The descriptive prose was really touching, and it wasn’t in large, daunting paragraphs that are hard to swallow, rather concise sentences. I really loved Where She Went. It was a fantastic book that continues the story and fought its way into my heart. I know that fans of the first book will like this sequel, and newcomers should start with If I Stay, or else risk being completely lost. I give this book 5/5 stars.

Another page turner from Sandra Brown!! From back cover: "A medical miracle gives TV personality Cat Delaney more than a new heart. With her second chance at life Cat trades Hollywood for San Antonio, where she hosts a TV show for children with special needs. Here she meets Alex Pierce, an ex-cop turned crime writer-and the first man to see her as a woman since her surgery. But her new world turns sinister when fatal "accidents" begin killing other heart recipients, and a mysterious stalker starts shadowing her every move. Soon Cat realizes Alex may-or may not-be her most important ally and that her new heart comes at a terrible price: a tangled web of secrets and someone determined to take her life."

A touching meditation on aging and personal choice. Science fiction is not well known for sensitive, nuanced portraits of women in middle age which made this a nice surprise.

Despite being instantly disgusted by a lot of this book, I still found it entertaining. I will read anything this man writes.

Here is a short list of allusions and influences in the plot: Alice in Wonderland Wizard of Oz Medusa Scheherazade Cinderella Snow White (anti) Sleeping Beauty the three Fates Freud and Dora Salem witch trials the Lady in the Lake And that's just off the top of my head. This book is packed with allusions - sometimes illusory, always elusive, brief gestures toward stories we know so well, they're imbedded in our subconscious. It addresses all those issues of memory, narrative, feminism, gender, and sexuality that have been done to death (in certain circles anyway), and it does it in a way that makes me want to keep reading. Julavits truly has a delicate, graceful touch with storytelling. Highly recommended.

This is an absolutely fantastic book. Sajer's candor and insight into his experiences in combat are a must read for any soldier, especially insofar as perspective on the war in Iraq is concerned.
Pretty much along the same lines as Animals in Translation. Good insight. I like to think the animal farming industry is slowly changing. Just because you eat them, doesn't mean you have to make their lives miserable before. I want to eat happy cows!

Helpful to get started if you are unfamiliar with this area of law - can give search terms for more in depth research in a specialized and occasionally obscure area of the law.

An epic poem, told from the point of view of two people, with lots of annotation and other Danielewski tricks anyone who read the interesting, if flawed, 'House of Leaves' will be familiar with. When I read this book I felt like it would probably be good for me to finish it, like eating Cheerios or Wheaties, but that's not why I read books (as a general rule). It's also supposed to be read 10 pages at a time, from each protagonist's point of view, and that definitely got annoying after about page 30. I think it's a ballsy exercise but it didn't do anything for me.
