The vivid and bright layering colors of Eric Carle's illustrations will once again not fail to gain the attention of the children. Learning sequencing with younger students is a perfect area to use "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?". Because the wording is so simple and repetitive it is easier for students to remember the sequencing order since there are not a lot of fine details in between. The rhyming of 'me' and 'see' is a good way to introduce rhyming. This book is also available in a board book which is wonderful for the younger reader!

I started this book in March 2010 but couldn't get through it... I started this book again in April 2011 and finally I got it! In the beginning I had to look up some of the details about the Civil war but once I refreshed my historical knowledge it was easier to read. It did take a long time for me to get through the book because I had to get used to all the different characters and the way he writes from one personage to another. But when all the pieces of this puzzle started falling into place it was great to read. I just wanted to know what happened and what was going to happen to Eliza and Jeddo. While reading I made notes in the book and tried to guess who the narrator was and how he got that name. I really think this was a good book, it just takes some time and effort to read it but in my opinion you are rewarded for that in the end.

These books, in my opinion are some of the worst books ever written. I do like the story. As in, if someone else wrote it then I would probably like it a lot better. But, I don't like the way they are written and the way Edward is toward Bella among a lot of other things.

Since I've suffer severe "insomnia"...I read this wonderful piece of literary genius during the middle of the night. Alice Hoffman has written a hypnotic and mesmerizing novel with 'The Drowning Season'. I was sorry to see this novel end! From back cover: "On a secluded waterfront estate on the North Shore of Long Island, a matriarch named Esther rules over her clan. But in spite of her sharp tongue and manipulative ways, she cannot quite keep control over her charges. Her son, Phillip, routinely tries to drown himself each summer; her granddaughter sneaks cigarettes and dreams of escape. Esther has hired Cohen, a Russian landscaper, to watch over the family as well as the grounds. But Cohen has been watching Esther as well. Nice collection of short stories. The first, Light in the Piazza--actually more of a novella than a short story is the best. (It is also the basis for the Broadway musical of the same name.) It was really enjoyable to read this - having been to Florence before, I can say that Spencer effectively evokes its atmosphere. The mother/daughter relationship was complex and interesting, and I liked how at first the story seemed to be about the daughter, but it's really about the mother.
