I wish she chose to be with adrian instead of with dimitri because in the long run they will not be able to have children any way and she will be good for adrian.

While I do not think this is Barbara O'Neal's best book, I still enjoyed it. The beginning was a bit choppy and slow, but the second half pulled me into the story. I give it 3.5 stars.

Laura Pedersen’s newest book is a collection of short stories, each one touching on a different aspect of love. Each story is a sweet, simple little tale and each explores love in a different way. Some are quite traditional – such as the story of blooming summer love – and others are decidedly untraditional – such as the love between a man and a dolphin. It’s an easy read – something you can pick up and put down and come back to again on a lazy afternoon. It’s probably not something you’ll plow right through simply because there are a lot of stories in one and not an overall tale. My favorite story is the first one that appears in the book called, “Gus Hunts for a Job”. It’s a sweet little story about Gus, the family dog, and the many “jobs” he plays throughout his life with each of the children in his family. After each one grows up, he gets a new job with the next child, fulfilling their wishes and desires, no matter what the task, from tagging along for boating trips or playing dress up. Gus finds his place and his job again and again, fulfilling his life’s goal and always staying up to the task set before him. Actually, this story made me cry. It probably wasn’t really meant to, but having lost my own childhood dog earlier this year made me think of him. It was a sweet memory to be left with. Though most of the stories are sweet and fuzzy, a few are a bit too weird for my taste. “Love Lucy” is the story of a man and a dolphin, who are in love with each other. Now, it’s not some sick, twisted story in any way, it’s more of a transcendent love that I don’t really understand since they often refer to the main character as not only loving Lucy, the dolphin, but being in love with Lucy. Though I’m open to new ideas, this particular story didn’t really do it for me. It just reminds me too much of people’s strange sexual desires (which unfortunately I have learned about thanks to the Internet), even though there’s no sexuality mentioned. I’d just skip that if I were you. The other stories have sweet little tales, from blooming love while away at summer camp, to two girls sending secret love emails to two lonely people in their town, to a woman who leaves the bright lights of New York to head to Alaska to meet and possibly marry an Alaskan man who she met through a magazine ad. If you’re looking for an easy breezy summertime read that will sometimes make you smile and feeling fuzzy on the inside, pick up this book and save it for your lazy summer days when all you want to do is kick back, relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Alan Garner packs a lot of story into a short book in Red Shift. Three stories in fact. Intertwined in the narrative and connected through time by a geographic location, The Mow Cop a hill in Cheshire England and by a neo-lithic hand axe. This much I was able to determine on my own. :) The 'main' story is fairly straightforward and takes place in contemporary England. The second story takes place during the Roman occupation of Britain. But Garner doesn't molly coddle his readers and it well over halfway into the book before I realised this. I had initially thought it took place in some post-apocalyptic future. Oh boy... The third story takes place in the English Civil War, in this case I guessed correctly that it took place sometime in the past :). Not helping my cause was that every character seemed to be named Tom or John. :( At any rate, it is short but it took me a long time to read it. I actually had to start over again after giving up. If it had been a long book I don't know if I would have made the effort. I did like the main story, and on reflection it is clever how Garner ties the three stories together Anyway it really is one of those books to be admired after reading it rather than enjoyed while reading it.

This book changed my life. It's hard to explain. You really have to read it. (Based on my experience, it helps to be a Catholic who loves books.) Kathleen Norris is a poet and has a poet's perspective on Catholicism and the ways of Benedictine monks. But she's also a Protestant, with a refreshingly level-headed outsider's perspective on the seemingly impenetrable world inside a monastery. The monks and nuns she describes are real, honest, witty and faithful people, with great stories and a passion for their religion that seems very accessible. My favorite of the chapters in the book are her essays on Catholic women saints (one on St. Maria Goretti and 1950's American Catholic misogyny, and one on the virgin martyrs). They're very frank about the problems in the way the church has treated women and how Catholic women of faith, including nuns, have struggled with that over the years. Very fresh, compelling stuff.

Very interesting. Would probably have been even better if I had some knowledge of herbs and religion.

Un cinquième aventure intéressante comme toujours. J'aime beaucoup le personnage de Delilah et la suivre dans ses aventures est toujours un plaisir.

I got two pages in before I was dying of details. Stephanie Meyer, I know you are a supposedly good writer, but COME ON!! I hope to self discipline myself into getting farther in this "good" book. It was highly recommended by my friends. What taste do they have!!??

This is a book for people who have seen Night Of The Living Dead. Last time I checked, that was everyone on earth but me. Yup, yet another shameful facet of my colossal cultural illiteracy. I don't have anything against zombies -- although I do feel better when they're not around -- and I'm sure I'll see the movie someday. I don't hate movies either, I just don't put as much time into movie watching as ... everyone else on earth. But enough about me! Let's talk about you! You've seen NOTLD, right? You probably understand all these references to hiding inside clocks and endlessly nailing wood over doors and smoking dope with strange men. I bet they will make this book awesome for you! Please read it and review it for me, and in your review describe the connection for those of us on planet Ignoramus. Thing is, I thought the whole assholes-instead-of-zombies idea was comic geeeeeeenius. Yes, there's a lot of comic mileage gotten out of it. And while Kevin Donihe probably desires to be taken more seriously, I love his sense of humor. But as the book progresses it gets severely shackled to the concept of Assholes Replace Zombies In Close Retelling Of Famous Horror Film Well Known To Everyone On Earth Except Mykle Hansen. What's maybe more interesting from a literary point of view is that it's told very internally, from the mind and heart of Barbara instead of from a camera POV. And maybe what Kevin is trying to do here is make fun of some things about the movie that really don't hold water if you have characters that actually think. So many movies have that problem. But then again i could be totally wrong about this because I NEVER SAW THE MOVIE aaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrr ..... So I am exactly the wrong person to review this book. I recuse myself. Please don't read this. Or this. No really, stop reading now! You're not doing yourself any favors, or Kevin Donihe netiher. Hey, I said go away! Don't make me make you all uncomfortable. Go! Go read someone else's review. There are no stars here anyway! No stars for books by my friends, that's the rule. Sorry, Super Mario. But when I do finally watch NOTLD, I'll come back here and try to clean up this mess.
