It certainly suffers from Second Book Syndrome -- the reader's left wondering if Scalzi had intended this sequel from the beginning -- with less depth, less transparency to the moralizing, and a more straightfoward plot; I spotted the ending from page 80 or so. Still, Scalzi's prose remains effervescent, and his worldbuilding is fascinating. Not as good as the first one, but still well above 95% of what's out there.

Back to my favorite genre and enjoying it! Nothing earth-shattering to learn or glean from this book, quite the contrary (the villian is a monster!) but just a great thriller with lots of twists and turns to keep you going. A little too gory at points, but all in all a fun(if you can call it that) read.

Wow, the story of the Blue Bloods just keeps getting better and better!! Schuyler is in search of her grandfather, who she didn't know was still alive. Oliver travels on the trip with her. This story unfolds, and I found it very difficult to put down. So many "things" are revealed. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I feel that I can't say too much without giving away spoilers, so you just need to read this series. Its a fast and easy read, and I love the history of the Blue Bloods that is revealed. TRY IT!!

I always feel like a louse when I don't like a book that is basically sweet and harmless. This one is just that sweet, and harmless with an upbeat ending. It also features a talking dog, a lady with brain cancer, a false accusation of rape, and lots and lots of talk about racing - none of which endeared the book to me. It's also predictable,filled with cliches and painfully badly written dialog. This one wasn't my cup of tea.

Another win by Scott. SO far, I think Unwritten Rule is my fav, but this was close. I like that she does good tension, while still keeping the story/dialogue/actions real.
