I enjoyed a break from my normal genre. Fascinating to me. She had such tenacity and persistence! I find myself dealing with my stubborn toddler & infant daily and the thought has occurred to me that if Anne Sullivan could remain consistent in her demands for Helen Keller [to get dressed, etc:] then I can certainly stick with it and be persistent until my child "gets it!" Because in the end we all want a civilized child. I know that I shouldn't compare--Anne Sullivan was working against such odds! I don't think I realized how uneducated and unprepared she was for this position. She really just drew on her own life experience and the fact that she had no where else to go.

While I enjoyed this book somewhat, I'm not quite sure why Palahniuk gets such glowing reviews. I have yet to read something by him that is worthy of note. That one movie they made with that one dude was pretty good.

Such a different style of writing and genre then anything I have ever read. Really enjoyed it though, dystopia is a very interesting theme and Orwell has experimented with it so well.

Down and Out in London and Paris and Burmese Days are my favorite Orwell books. I still like 1984 and Animal Farm a great deal, but these two are my favorites. I guess I like the true life stories better than the alegories.

Parts of this book were disturbing and parts of it were insightful. What a horrible experience for anyone to go through. Interestingly written with the five year old as narrator. It is true to the child in that he longs for his "normal" which was the room. HE didn't have so many negative feeling attached to it as his mother simply because it was all he knew. While I wouldn't want to read it again, it is an interesting study into the pshyche of a child and how his experience is only what he knows. THank goodness in the story he had a loving mother who protected him from the ugliness that really was the room.

I liked this book. It was fun and exciting. The only reason I rated it a 3 instead of a 4 is that I am always a little bugged when the main character is a child and they are kind of evil. I mean, Nathanial is only 12 and seeking revenge and causing murder and chaos. Nevertheless, I will definitely be continuing this series.

Normally my disinterest in the political world wouldn't have had me pick this up. One of the problems with having such a long book queue is that I sometimes develop a passing interest in something that is long gone before I get to a book that dovetailed with that interest. Probably prompted by the election and seeing activity from the Tea Party movement, I thought looking behind the curtain might be interesting. Maybe then it would have been. It isn't now.
