Read pre-publication My Thoughts: Now, as a bookseller, I occasionally like to step outside of my comfort zone when it comes to reading. Mainly so that I can make knowledgable recommendations to customers that don't share the same reading tastes as myself. This definitely is a book that is not my style. It was an enjoyable read - did remind me a little of a Soap Opera and would be perfect for lounging about on holiday with. It touched on a few disturbing issues, but wasn't graphic in any way and so wasn't offensive at all. If the idea of a tame Virginia Andrews novel with a Sweet Valley High twist appeals to you, then by all means, give it a go. Money, sex, fashion and family - all tangled up into one fairly decent read. Not too bad as far as chick-lit is concerned.

This is an all around great story, which is what I think Stephen King was going for. He combines lord of the rings with an old Clint Eastwood western to make an intense, action packed book. I loved it.

This is my favourite Discworld novel. It was also the first one I read and the only one I have read more than twice. I love the whole premise of the story. Death taking on an apprentice is a joyous idea and him going on holiday is even better. I think this highlights the magical world created by Terry Pratchett in Discworld to a t. I laughed continuously throughout and was thorough engaged by the story. The characters are fantastic, Death being the shining star for me and the story is thoroughly entertaining. A great read. I loved it!

This was an interesting piece of historical fiction that was accurate at times, and shockingly assuming at others. The author spent many years studying Roman history, which gave the story an authentic feeling when temples, gods, politics, residences, and travel are described. The story begins with Claudia as a child, goes up to the time when she meets Pontius Pilate, and describes her marriage and life with him. She suffers incredible loss throughout her life (as a character in this story, since she is only mentioned once in the Bible and we have no idea how she lived). She meets Mary Magdalene along the way and the two become friends. This is where the story gets a little disturbing. Having read into the myth of modern day opinions that are not based on fact, the author has Mary and Jesus marry each other, which is where she lost me. I mean come on here, can't we just develop the story around what we know to be true of Roman history? No. Apparently not. So Jesus is crucified after Pilate faces that awful decision to crucify him or have an uncontrollable mob on his hands. The circumstance of Claudia's input and how it came about is intriguing to read because it brings the actual story to life just a little more. However, I have such a hard time when authors take liberty with scripture that I hold to be true. All in all, an interesting story from a historical perspective, with lots of romance and drama, but seriously lacking in substance and facts.

Oh, I love me some Ruby. (Nerd!) Not sure I'm a fan of distrustful narrators, but on the whole this book was damn good, and made me want to just up and move somewhere and give birth to some baby girls.
