Great read. I loved the main character's voice: wimpy with constant chagrin.

This was an excellent "conclusion" to the Atticus Kodiak series, if that's what it indeed turns out to be. The story and conclusion play out in a much cleaner fashion than Patriot Acts. Though I've never loved the direction Kodiak took from Critical Space on, it's a great story told by a very accmoplished writer.

Well-written historical YA novel told from the perspective of 16-year-old Aiden Lynch. After the loss of their entire family and coming close to starvation themselves, he and his younger sister Maddy travel west with a wagon train to start anew in Washington state. Smallpox, personal tragedy, friendships, and the shift from childhood to adulthood affect them both on this journey.

A short story, really, this is a sequel to Six of One et al. The entire episode occurs during a daylong trip to the beach; it adds depth to the reader's appreciation of two sisters' relationship. A good little read.

The Complete Far Side!!!! I don't think I need to review it. What I learned? I guess I learned about the family unit in multiple species, and that some female dung beetles wear horn-rim glasses.

Definitely my favorite of the series. I wasn't particularly happy with Spook's character and his envy of leadership position, Sazed's depression was also a big bummer. BUT... I loved the ending. Sanderson did a great job of tying everything in together. I enjoyed the development of Vin & Elend's characters and how they learned to grow into their positions. One of my favorite scenes was when Preservation showed himself to Elend knowing that it would be his last act but knowing that Elend needed the support. This book definitely made the series worth the read.

Maureen Johnson never disappoints, and this novel is just as amusing, sarcastic, interesting and intriguing as her others. Jane is no cookie cutter character and the ending of this novel is just as different and un-cliched as it could be. Additionally, Maureen Johnson has the unique ability to make young people, high school and growing up realistic. Her characters make morally ambiguous decisions, mistakes and snarky comments without the usual preaching commentary from the narrator or adult figures, and they offer questions and comments rather then seemingly all-knowing answers. Plus, this take on the Goethe story is really just much more fun.

Generally speaking, an intelligent and broad-based analysis. The authors' basic premise, that monogamy has been a human tradition only so long as we've had agriculture, seems well-supported. The additional argument that we'd all be happier in a polyamorous state, seems beyond the scope of the evidence given. I did find the book's tone frustrating: "I know you've got all these narrow-minded preconceptions, but hold onto your crucifixes because we are going to BLOW YOUR MIND!" Thanks, but I'm an intelligent person who chose to read your book; most likely, I'm not going to shout "you, sir, offend me!" and throw the book to the floor. Would have preferred a drier, more scientific approach.

The book starts out with Sebastian Santiago(a half-lycan breed called "dovenatu") being tortured by a pack of lycans. They are depriving him of food so that he is starving; then their sick plan includes throwing a human in his cell, where he will be unable to control his bloodlust. Ruby Deveraux is in Istanbul with a group of children waiting to be adopted. When two go missing, she takes it upon herself to find them before they come to harm. Unfortunately, she falls right into the hands of the lycan pack and they know just what to do with her. They throw her in to a cell with Sebastian and wait for him to break and devour her. Ruby is different too; she can read people's emotions. More than that, she can FEEL what other people are feeling (pain, anguish, joy, etc.). From the other lycans she felt a black void, immense hunger. She can feel the hunger that is consuming Sebastian, but she does not sense the black void, the darkness in him. There is more to Sebastian than meets the eye and she soon realizes that there is something else inside him that she can play off of to give her a better chance at surviving this ordeal: lust. As hungry as he is, she can sense that he craves her as well. Obviously they are going to have to work together if either of them are going to get out alive. If they can get past Sebastian's blood lust they might just have a chance... 1) Character Development: This book has excellent character development! I picked it up actually thinking that it was the first book in the series. WRONG! It's #3, and when I figured that out I was thinking "Ah man, should I wait to read this until I've read the other two books or just go for it and hope for the best?" I was not disappointed; the author does an excellent job of giving back story so that you know something of what happened in the previous books. Also, you get a lot of information about Ruby and Sebastian's pasts (especially Ruby) which really cements the connection you develop with the characters. It's really easy to relate and empathize with them. If you want to read the rest of my review, please click here to visit my book review blog, Bookerella.
