Fun to read a mystery about the Edinburgh Festival while at the festival. Definite junk food mystery, lots of action, and the attempts to humanize the protagonist felt particularly flat... just get on with the terrorist plotting and festival scenery, I don't need to know about Skinner's home life, or inner emotional realities. Not the least of which is because those came over as a cliche.

I just could not get into this book. My husband - an english teacher- was also reading it and we would both read about 10 pages then have to go back to another book that was more interesting.

Some of the recipes are a bit too exotic and complicated for me but the breakfast recipes are great, layered berry shake, oatmeal with caramelized apples, french toast with berries and yogurt, YUM!!!

Excellent book! It perfectly captures the experience of being a first-generation, Indian descent N. American Muslim grappling with the arranged marriage process/how to meet your spouse. The wedding traditions, the arranged marriage stuff -- it's very accurate and insightful. At one point in the novel, one character wants the other to know that she is over him, so she dances with him in public at a wedding. Because it's only acceptable in the community to dance together so publicly with someone you consider a brother. That is so accurate. I never thought I would read this in a novel. The main character -- you sympathize with him, and you are also frustrated with him. I was a little bothered that the main character is a big South Asian feminist but then turns out to be kind of traditional. Definitely a must read for any S. Asian descent Americans, especially first generation. I finished this on Easter -- was very eager to find out what happened.

I have to say I love Diane's writing. There are times I wonder if I will get into the book and the characters properly but before I know it I am absorbed and sucked in. The ending - which I won't share so as not to ruin anything - could be seen as a little far fetched and although the book is of quite a thickness the ending felt rushed.

Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy is an absolutely amazing experience. Williams has the capacity to delve into fictional worlds and bring you directly into their landscapes, peoples, and languages. I have since read other books by Tad Williams, all of which i find equally mesmerising, and equally un-put-downable!

KİTAP NE ZAMAN GELİYOR !!!!!!!!!!! ??????????? Tamam, bu kitabı SEVDİM ve keşke bunun hakkında konuşmak için daha fazla zamanım olsaydı ... ama bilmiyorum.
