this book is about a young couple with a child that goes a spends some time with her grandmother. They want to put the grandmother in a nursery home and this mother is on maternity leave and so she goes and stays with her grandmother until the family can decide what to do. The family hasn't been really close since their mother died 6 years ago. The grandmother leaves a journal in places that her granddaughter can see. At first she thinks that she is snooping and reading the journal but then she looks forward to the times that her grandmother leaves it for her to read. There is so much wisdom that comes from the grandmother. I enjoyed reading it and have done so several times. I have given out to many people and everyone loves it. There are other books that follows in this series that were good and continues the story. Lisa Wingate has another series that I have heard is superb as well. I will get to them soon

This was my first "Prey" book by Sandford. Well-paced thriller, good plot with nice twists. I might read some more of his books.

There's a lot less BS in this than in De Anima, I'll tell you that!

I don't usually read books that are considered fantasy but I thought the previews for the movie looked really good so I had to read the book before seeing the movie. Part of me wants to hate the book. There's the voice in the back of my head shouting "time travel isn't real, this is stupid!" as I'm reading. I'm not liking the idea of someone suddenly showing up naked and throwing up. Its hard to get to used to the book skipping around all over in time and not being in chronological order. There's a lot of phrases from other languages thrown in I don't understand and tons of names of punk bands I've never heard of that I just skim over. Somehow when I ignore the voice in the back of my head and put everything together I loved the book! I immediately got sucked into the book and couldn't put it down. With the time traveling so many hints are dropped and I couldn't wait to get farther in the book and find out how things would work out. By the time I got to the end I just wanted it to keep going and not end!

The author lands us in a ruined, corrupted world and proceeds to show us how it can get worse. But somehow it is still a beautiful story.

I've finished the series on Laura Ingalls Wilder's mother Caroline Quiner with this charming little book.

On the surface, "Emily Ever After" seemed to be another tale of good girl gone bad in NYC. Fortunately, it turned out to be individual and completely different from any of the tales of New York I have read before. Emily struggles to fit in with the other assistants at work, and finds herself in places she'd never imagined she could ever be. She got laughed at when she ordered a Diet Coke on a night out, and tried to counter that by drinking too much at a book party, resulting in her first-ever hangover. After that incident she learned her limit, but was taken by surprise with her new 'is-he-isn't-he' boyfriend. While he claimed to be a good Christian, and even took Emily to church with him, his wandering hands and his far too provocative lips left Emily feeling really confused. After she allowed Bennett to get closer than she was comfortable with, I thought she'd have just conformed to be the kind of girl she surrounded herself with. It was great seeing her make decisions that she felt would make her comfortable, and have to deal with things that real-life Christians deal with while living in a fast-paced world. I really enjoyed the writing style, and loved Emily's passion and determination. The side-story of her uncle seemed a bit out of place and unnecessary, though her uncle did offer her a bit of home away from home. I DIDN'T like that this book made San Diego seem like small-town life. Though it is considerably different from NYC, San Diego would have offered Emily the same kinds of people (girls who are fashion obsessed and boys who want lots of sex) and life-experiences (publishing companies, party life, drinking, drugs, sex, etc). If Emily truly went to SDSU she would have been just as immersed in that lifestyle as she was in NYC. All in all, this was a really enjoyable book and I liked it far more than I anticipated I would. I am now adding more Dayton/Vanderbilt books to my reading list. :-)
