With money and good looks, the world is yours, but what happens when the ugliness in your soul takes over your physical appearance? Kyle had everything, Adrian had nothing, one was a prince, the other was positivity....beastly. Obviously, if I read the book in one sitting and stayed up until 2am reading it, it was a very good book. However, I cannot give it 5 stars due to my "differences in style" from Flinn. I disagree with several elements of this book, which I don't wish to discuss here as it would spoil certain key parts.

Indeed, an epic conclusion to an epic series! Erikson had me emotionally engaged throughout The Crippled God. I laughed. I cried. I felt for so many characters. This final volume of the series was satisfying and thought provoking. The fate of a few major players is uncertain, but closure is adequate for most focal characters. Erikson appears to have faith in humanity. I have hope for a more peaceful world.

It was an interesting story. I picked it up for the Historical Fiction, however it had just as much Romance as Historical Fiction. A bit too much Romance for me :)

Not what I expected. I have been told that the book is both cute and strange, which parts are. After reading the history of the author I was able to get a lot more from the characters.

The Things They Carried is a brilliant combination of action, suspense, symbolism, allegory, comedy, and insight into the human psyche beyond simply being a "war story." You will be instantly sucked into the characters because they are multi-dimensional and are presented in a way one might not imagine without having been in a war themselves. The book can also be read as a series of short stories, my favorite of which is "Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong," which features arguably my favorite use of symbolism and allegory in any piece of literature.

** spoiler alert ** As a paean to 80s geekdom this book is wonderful; as a mystery/treasure hunt it stretches disbelief. (You're seriously expecting me that nobody got the not-very-obscure references to Tomb of Horrors and Zork for months when billions were at stake? I know it's set in the future, but if Cory Doctorow and Wil Wheaton are still around then there's bound to be plenty of others who still remember that stuff, not to mention all the folks who got into it as a result of the egg hunt.)

Its about a head that lost a missing piece of his head. When looking for the missing piece he talk to worms, smell flowers, met beetles, play with butterfly and sing a song. He found big pieces, small pieces and tall pieces. He stuck them in his mouth but they did not fit. He broke one piece. He found a new one that fit him but he can not sing or talk. He could not talk to worms or play with butterfly. He let it go. He found his missing piece but did not want it anymore.
